It Is What It Is Official statement from Pats on moves

Official statement from Pats on moves

Here’s the press release on the flurry of moves the Patriots made Thursday afternoon.

The New England Patriots signed six draft picks today. Signed were second-round picks DL Ron Brace and OL Sebastian Vollmer, third-round pick WR Brandon Tate, fifth-round pick OL George Bussey, sixth-round pick DL Myron Pryor and seventh-round pick WR Julian Edelman. Terms of the agreements were not announced.

In addition, the Patriots waived first-year WR Robert Ortiz and placed rookie RB Eric Kettani and rookie WR Tyree Barnes on the reserve/military list.

Butler's signing was announced back when PFT was reporting his contract had a glitch. Including Shun White who was not waived or placed on reserve/military, there's 81 on roster?

Butlers deal is not official yet....all the rookie signings announced here were reported last week......Nothing to worry about the agent announced the deal who knows why the pats are waiting to make it official likely to give them a day or two to decide who to let go

Butler's deal is official. Even Gasper confirmed that in his latest post.

Patriots sign second-round pick CB Darius Butler

There are 80 on the roster. 86-3 (cut/reserve)-3 (unsigned)=80.

Not sure where that number is coming from. I have 80.

Update: (6:06 p.m.) -- I previously said the team had not officially announced the signing of cornerback Darius Butler. That was incorrect. The Patriots did in fact announce Butler's signing on July 13.

not to often Reiss' Pieces makes me look bad......

Maybe I'm missing something, but why Kettani instead of White? At least Kettani would be of more use as TC opens (if he were needed in some way).

Maybe it was because of milatary obligations

Per this blog post Blog » Navy Football Post Academy Assignments » NavySEALs.com, all three are assigned to Surface Warfare (a shipboard assignment for those who need a translation). As to why there's no announcement for Shun White by the NEP, all I can speculate is he missed OTA/Mini-Camp presumably rehabbing an injury and if he's still working with the trainers the Navy may have been willing to post him for Temporary Duty in Rhode Island to allow him to continue to work with the NEP Training Staff. His ship may also be in drydock which would give his Commanding Officer some leeway to let him have Temporary Duty with time to participate in Training Camp - unlikely, but you never know.

Wouldn't that be a change from what they had been told? IIRC, Kettani, at least, was supposed to spend the fall helping to coach the Naval Academy Prep School, before spending another 18 months or so stationed in Florida.

I don't recall what the individual players had been told. If Kettani was assigned to the Prep School, then this is about the right time of year for new personnel to be reporting. I'm surprised Kettani was able to participate in the OTAs and mini-camp unless he was traveling back and forth from Annapolis and just taking leave around the training date - I had 10 days leave to use after boot camp and that put my classmates and I in "debt" to the service. Academy cadets would accrue more, but they'd also use more and their commands usually want them onboard ASAP. At this point I can only guess that there's a special accommodation affecting White's status. He's still listed on the roster, and unless he's being discharged from the Navy and billed for his education he'll be waived or shifted to reserve/military status soon enough.

White is probably headed to the Military/Reserve list as well, but why put him there until they need to.. Its probably just semantics as to the timing.
