New England Patriots' Darryl Richard is running down his NFL dream - New Orleans Saints Beat

Unless its a typo, Darryl needs to do some homework,This is not a 4-3 defense but only on occasion.

I think he is a longshot to make the team but nevertheless its a nice story and good luck to him, seems like he is determined to make the NFL or as a GM down the road.

Thanks for the link! The 4-3 bit is clearly a typo (or a "speako") -- Richard is obviously smart enough to know the difference. :)

I've seldom come across a player who is so universally lauded off the field. Myron Rolle, the Florida State safety who skipped this year's draft in favor of a Rhodes Scholarship, is one comparison.

I'm not so sure that is a typo, when NE goes to a 4-3, they don't change their gap control philosophy. That said, his high school may also be running a 3-4, this video of the State Championship game never shows the defense lined up, but the onfield action sure looks like a gap control defense and if the numbering is similar to the NFL, the size/number look might just be a 3-4 look.

So Rolle is actually following through on his brain surgeon dream over the NFL?
That's a change.

No, he's doing a one-year Fulbright at Oxford.

That's a great honor, but he plans on football a year from now.

Not to get too heavily into it, but what's his status as a prospect?

I'm actually a big fan of Richard. I think he might prove to be a nice backup player with a little work. Love his overall football IQ, work ethic, and technique. Reminds me a lot of Bobby Hamilton...

I'm not sure if he'd have to go through the draft or would be a Free Agent, but I'd imagine being a year away from football won't hurt him too much and he'll be the equivalent of a second day prospect.

Yep, the guys who will be fighting for a Practice Squad slot in this camp are impressive.

Have the Pats become the #2 team in New Orleans? Jeez.
