Maybe every little bit counts when it comes to having the "extension for Vince or Big Sey" fund large enough?

The Big Sey fund is about as likely as a hillbilly college fund. They wont make that mistake again. The long snapper can go as well.

Not to be facetious, but put yourself in Ingram's shoes. Why should he be asked to give up some of his signing bonus when guys like Pryor or Richard get their full bonus upfront, even though historically there's no guarantee they'll be Patriots either next year?

I see Ingram's point. Butler and Brace will be with the Patriots in

2010. A #6 or #7 draft pick probably won't be. It looks like the

Patriots are trying to defer some bonus money and protect

themselves. Despite the snag, things will be resolved quickly because

the agent knows the player is a #6 draft choices and needs all the

practice time he can get. Maybe the solution is a three year contract

with a reduced bonus.

You are 100% correct. Any late round draft pick who has to defer bonus

money into 2010 should fire his agent.

Well, he is a sixth round pick on a team without many roster positions available, already has veteran competition for the position, and in a year where the Pats had six rookies entering camp drafted in the second or third round (granted one is on IR). The guy is facing an uphill battle to make the 2009 team. He may make the practice squad, but isn't likely to make the active roster.

If he is relegated to the practice squad, that means he was cut by the team and passed through waivers. That means his contract would be null and void and even if he made the 2010 roster, he wouldn't get the roster bonus.

Right, that's what I meant. If he figures the only money he is going to get is his signing bonus, then he needs to get as much as he can upfront. That's what he is doing. If the Pats feel he isn't as good as Hodel and only have him for insurance, then they need to make his bonus as small as possible. Which is what they are doing.

I was never one to put a lot of emphasis on long snappers. The worst of them seldom miss. It is the holder who doesn't catch the ball usually when things go wrong. The Pats went into the Carolina Superbowl with a guy (Kinchen) who they pulled out of a Louisiana Middle School faculty.

IMO WRs and TEs drop more passes in the end zones than long snappers miss on their snaps.

So I find the idea of a long snapper holdout to be funny, and I think it would be hilarious if the two didn't get together and he didn't play this year and went back into the draft next year. Except, of course, that Felger and Borges (Felges?) would blame every missed FG and bad punt on the Pats for not signing the key player for their superbowl run: a long snapper

It's about the only entertainment I have left until TC opens.

Deep snappers are among the lowest paid players on a team.

Lonnie Paxton left because he got a much better deal from Denver.

If the Patriots did not want to pay a 2009 bonus to a deep snapper,

they simply should not have drafted one. Pay for draftees is pre-determined.

Ingram should be receiving a salary and associated bonus less than

the 197th pick but more than the 199th pick. The Patriots want to

change the rules to little or no bonus if you don't make the team. No

sensible agent or player would go along with this.
