Manza Young: Put up your Dukes

I agree with SMY. I don't see Vick coming here. Even without the baggage. I think the Pats have far too many high draft picks that will need to make the 53 man roster to keep a QB to run gimmick plays especially since there are strong signs that the league has caught onto how to stop the gimmick.

Personally, I only expect Brady and O'Connell to make the final 53 man roster at QB. I think Guitierez will be on the practice squad (assuming he is still eligible).

This whole Michael Vick to the Patriots is an interesting story, but I think that is all it is. I don't think Belichick is enamored with the Wildcat as the media seems to think. If they were, they probably would have ran it last year with Faulk at QB. The fact that Belichick came back and completely shutdown the Wildcat the second time the Pats played the Dolphins tells me that he feels that if people are expecting it to come and practice defending it that it is easily stopped. Yes, the Pats did meet with Pat White prior to the draft, but that could have easily have been a smokescreen especially if their moles got wind that the Dolphins were interested and wanted to make them take a higher pick on him knowing all the high picks the Pats had.

I do wish BB and Kraft would make a public statement that New England has no interest in Vick, as other teams have. That would end the speculation and ease the minds of season ticket holders like me.

That wouldn't be very Patriots-like.

From a football only perspective, the thought of Vick in a Patriot uniform is very exciting and there is certainly a place for him in any offense.

However, SMY is dead on point, the New England Patriot brand stands for class. I would hate to see the Vick circus, with all its ugly baggage come to town. UGH - PETA protests, news stories left and right, headlines galore, all feeding into the I hate NE bias. NO THANK YOU.

Even if BB and Bob Kraft signed off and I cannot imagine they would, I would be shocked if Myra Kraft did not step in and let her much cooler head prevail.

From a football only perspective it's extremely unlikely and only of academic interest as to how BB would use him if his head wasn't 1% brain, 49% fat, and 50% ego. He's not a good fit for anything NE does on the field.

Back when the whole Vick thing went down, I told my brother that Vick had played his last game in the NFL. My brother told me I was crazy and that Vick would end up with just a slap on the wrist and that Vick would be playing again in 2009.

I think that Vick got more than a slap on the wrist and I believe that there are still charges pending in Virginia since they were filed after Vick had already pleaded guilty.

Personally, I think that Vick should be used to send a message. That the NFL won't tolerate that sort of criminal activity.

While Vick could really be made to blend in, effectively, with the offense, on a 1 year contract that would benefit both him and the Patriots, the team just drafted 452 players this past year. That, along with the PR fallout, should probably make this a non-issue.

I could be made to blend in, maybe even effectively, with the offense...it's still not a good fit. :snob:

We disagree on this one. I can picture a 2 QB backfield with Brady and Vick, and on the other side of the line of scrimmage, I can picture 11 players metaphorically crapping their pants, and I can picture Vick running one heck of a "wildcat" package for just a couple of plays a game.

Sure, if all you want is two plays a game and a lot of slippery crap for the team to tiptoe through, to me that's not worth veteran minimum.

I'd have paid the veteran minimum for 2-5 plays in the 2007 Super Bowl.

Well, yeh, but that's just for the entertainment of seeing Tuck and Osi play make a wish...:D

"Now starting at QB for the Washington Redskins.........."

As much as he has served his time and all should move on.. there are many franchises that do not want the publicity hit.. the Pats do not want this distraction.

All we need is to go to TC and have to listen to the PETA folks..

Which is why the Redskins could very well bring him in.

1) The owner is a desperate attention whore

2) What's the cost - - ruining the "QB situation" in DC????????

For similar reasons, Dallas could also be a possibility.

While I can certainly understand that an owner as sensitive to controversy as Kraft might wish to avoid Michael Vick, being picketed by PETA should be considered a badge of honor by any sane human being.

While Dan Snyder loves to throw money around, I don't see him bringing in Vick for a variety of reasons. The biggest is the potential of alienating his fanbase. Also, Jason Campbell made significant strides last year and is a better QB than Vick.

Jerry Jones won't touch Vick either. Why? Because of the epic fail with Pacman Jones. Not to mention that the Cowboys are behind Romo 100%.

I think that SMY (and several posters on here) has the right of it. If Vick goes anywhere, it would be to the Raiders... Where Al Davis just cares about Speed. Another thing is the Oakland/San Fran area is a universe unto itself. Short of an NFL team moving to Alaska, its probably the farther that Vick can get from Virginia... And, well, He can show JaMarcus Russell how not to be a QB.. He'd be the perfect mentor (*snic*

John Chisum being picketed, yes, Vick, not so much.

Ehhh..... I don't have the ire towards Vick that so many others do. Without going into it and hijacking the thread overmuch, my political philosophy precludes it.
