I was watching yesterday's NFL segment on Vick and they were saying on how when he is able to get out of confinement in 2 days and he will be free to be signed if Goodell sees fit, that the team most likely to be giving Vick a call first will be the Patriots and this was the ONLY team Dukes and Co. discussed for where Vick will end up.

They showed highlights of last years beatdown by the Dolphins over the Patriots in NE and the wildcat formation that totally screwed with Belichick's mind in a rare occurence and how Belichick wants to be able to do the same kind of stuff and that NE would be the likely dumping spot for Vick to use him to copy Miami's formation and make the wildcat virtually unstoppable.

While Edelman has not played a down and is yet to be assured a roster spot,Wasn't Julian the player many think will be used IF BB decides to try the Wildcat formation?

I can't see Vick in NE like they think,The media will go wild - Vick's best opportunity to get back in the league would be with joining a real bad team in a real small market where no one really cares and all their fans will take anything they can get.

And besides, why take the ball out of a VERY capable QB like Brady who can make plays more successful than the Wildcat ever could?.

In Boston's media market it would be a horrendous move, but apparently by watching that segment last night, the NFL Network thinks it will go that way I guess.

It always amazes me when teams talk about the Dolphins and the wildcat formation. They immediatley go to the Pats game. I agree that it was a surprise and it worked well in the FIRST game.

I do not believe BB is dying to run the wildcat. I also do not believe that the wildcat is going to become a common style of offense. IMO Edelman was picked for his athetism and his brains. The Pats will see if he finds a spot on the team.

What bothers me is that few reporters talk about how effective the wildcat was in the second game. After the Pats D had time to prepare for it they shut it down. BB doesn't need to look to the Dolphins for new innovative ideas. He comes up with his own every year

I agree that the Wildcat is not a need in NE

When you have a HOF QB like Brady you really don't need extremely fancy plays to beat a defense - Brady has shown he can beat defenses constantly and with everyday plays...and that was way before the Dolphins discovered the Wildcat.

Besides,I actually love the gimmick plays this team has done over the years like the one flea flicker against Pittsburgh in the Anthony Smith shut the fu(k up revenge game

I read something about Goodell leaning toward lengthening Vick's suspension. If this were to happen, it would have to wait. Personally, I don't want it to happen. Like you said, I don't see the point in taking the ball out of Brady's hands.

Another thing; a lot of writers and analysts keep bringing up how the Patriots were burned by the wildcat and seem to be implying that Belichick is somehow hellbent on using it himself. I honestly don't think he cares that much about it. Why would he when he has Tom Brady and all of those other weapons? They can just drop 40 points without having running backs taking snaps.

Just like when this team was burned by the blitz and pressure from rotating LBs like the Giants did well in SB 42 - You didn't see Belichick immediately go and fire the whole LB corps and his OL and get all different guys because the G men did so well that game Just like the Dolphins did in week 3 in 08 - It was ONE game from an opponent where it worked to perfection but usually when you beat BB's game plan once it does not happen again as the same with the Dolphins.

There will be another game this year I am sure where BB gets burned and it does not go as planned and we lose, but you won't see an overhaul of players or changes, just move on to the next week.

The thing about Miami's wildcat is that it was only game-changing for that one game against the Pats. Take out that explosion, and Miami was a below-average offense week in and week out. The sports media is still treating this wildcat thing as some groundbreaking future trend and it is not.

Tom Brady is a useless man on a wildcat play. What is he going to do, recieve? Block? Say Vick gets signed...sure the guy can play QB for a few snaps, but what do you do with BRady, take him off the field? Talk about telegraphing your plays?

Edelmen is here is a practice body to prepare the defense for opponents like Miami and Atlanta who utilize the wildcat. If he catches on as a WR or a KR, great for him.

Does Belichick really strike these guys as a man who is that desperate to succesfuly run the wildcat offense that he's running round on the phone to an ex criminal and about to use cap space just to execute a play he might use a few times, all while leaving the best QB in the NFL on the sideline.....?

Dukes is obsessed with Vick and is going after any excuse and senario to back up his view he's still worth something in the league.

Nutter.

That's nucking futs.

Is Rex Ryan posting here?

No,hes not online right now,Channing Crowder broke into his office and smashed his computer into bits and pieces all while yelling "here is who
fu(king Channing Crowder is b!tch!!" :).

Yea, we'll take out league's best QB, who is returning from serious knee injury and line him up as WR and have him block for us. Oh and have below average bouche dag QB who been out of football for a while be our starting QB. Why wouldn't BB think of this!:singing:

I believe a few weeks after Florio started pounding the initial Vick's a fit for NE blather Florio posted that the scenario had been shot down by people claiming to have actual sources on the matter. I don't know who they were, but I'm willing to bet they are right and Dukes is just a day late and dollar short, as usual.

Some people insist on basing their ****amamie opinions on the matter on what they believe would be best for Vick. They see that as BB and the NE locker room. But it's not about Vick, it's all about what's best for NE where BB is concerned. A long time ago he promised Kraft he could win without resorting to signing thugs and hoodlums. And he has done that consistently. Only a team desperate to win would talk themselves into taking on a guy as polarizing as Vick. And i'm not even sure there is one desperate enough to do so in the NFL as we speak.

UFL is where he will land if he plays this season because Goodell is also not through with him. The smart money now realizes he will yet serve an actual in season suspension under the player conduct rules for the totality of his offenses which we now know spanned the entire length of his NFL employment not to mention were exacerbated by his repeated lying to league officials as well as investigators and prosecutors.

The league doesn't want another round of Vick watch drama to open the 2009 season. In 2010 when the talk might otherwise be about labor unrest and an impending lockout is a different matter.

To be fair, the first team that was mentioned was actually the Rams, but they shot that down on the grounds that a team that signed Vick would not want to create a QB controversy in so doing.

There is no way that Kraft allows the Patriots to sign Vick due to public relations backlash. I agree that the Wildcat game was just awful, but BB knows how to defend it now. I can see the Patriots instituting the Wildcat just so teams have to take time during the week to prepare for it, but the ball needs to be in Brady's hands as much as possible, so I can't see it being used too much.

Yeah, why don't they ever point out that the Wildcat was totally in effective against the Pats the second time around. And ineffective against a lot of other teams.

People think Belichick was fooled once by an offense that he has to immitate it. I don't see it happening. First, you don't want to take Brady off the field for any reason. Second, the Pats have a lot of rookies this year and roster spots are going to be at a premium. Why would he waste a roster spot on a player for a gimmick play that the rest of the league may have already figured out.

I'm sure he's been lifting in jail, so the only question now is...does he project to inside or outside linebacker?:)

First John Clayton, then Peter King, then Mike Florio, now Jamie Dukes and the NFL Network, all saying the same thing. If they're going to speculate, can't they at least be original?

What I do not understand is the theory that "since the Patriots were beaten by the wildcat scheme, they need to respond by employing that themselves." Huh? That's like saying that the way to fix your rush defense is to sign a running back. If the Patriots, or any other team, need an answer to the wildcat formation the answer is on defense, and not by copycatting what has already been done.

The second thing that these analysts are not considering is that the Dolphins went to the wildcat in large part because their offense was not very productive; they needed a way to manufacture yardage, first downs and points. The Patriots are not in that position; they had one of the top offenses in the league last year, now they get Tom Brady back, a healthy Laurence Maroney, start of the season with the offensive line intact, and have added Fred Taylor and Joey Galloway. It's a completely different situation from what Miami was in last year with noodle-arm and a bunch of receivers nobody had ever heard of.

Third, as has been pointed out before, why would you want to take the ball out of Brady's hands? If Vick comes in to replace Brady, you've tipped your hand while you're still in the huddle. If Brady remains in the game, you're putting an MVP QB coming off knee surgery in unnecessary risk at WR. One thing that made Miami's wildcat effective was that it used the same personnel on the field. Bringing in another player off the bench to run it reduces the surprise factor and gives the defense more time to prepare for it, which makes it less effective.

Fourth, consider the Pats current offensive scheme. It counts on the QB to make quick, correct decisions as well as accurate throws. Neither of those are a strong suit of Vick's; in fact they are the biggest flaws in his game. It would be very unlikely that Vick would succeed in the Pats current offense. That would leave changing the entire offense to take advantage of Vick's strengths. Since the offense has been one of the NFL's best the last couple of years, why would a coach want to change it?

Bottom line is that Michael Vick is a very poor fit for the Patriots, regardless of how many times the national media repeats the idea.

Wasn't that so Brave?

Of the Dolphins to come in pumped up to beat the Patriots with their new gimmick sceme a week after the NFL MVP goes down for a season!!

I mean I am really impressed that Miami managed to win a division on a tiebreaker and get stomped the second time they tried that act. They are really not getting enough credit.

I mean they had a lot on the line in that first game against the Pats minus Brady.

The Jets and Phins both needed nonsense tiebreakers to block the Pats from the playoffs in their only misses this decade I believe.

I ask both fan bases in the two season the Pats recently did not make the playoffs because of a divisional tie. What do you think would have happened if there had been a playoff to see who won the division those years. Oh even if there wan't snow. I forgot thats not fair.

Easy answer.

Keep counting on our injuries and free agent losses, oh and tiebreaker to get a piece of the action. And then talk up your brilliant strategy that was ripped off from college and high school coaches and call it your own.

The only way Vick comes to NE is if Vick decides to give up on being a QB which will never happen. He would have to agree to a slash role like Kordell Stewart. Not only does Vick want to be a QB, he wants to be a starting QB.

The offense would have to completely change if Vick was on the QB depth chart and he was forced into action. Vick running the Pats offense would be a joke. We had this conversation last year when people wanted to sign Daunte.

I believe Vick will end up as a Raider at the end of the day. He fits the Raider image perfectly which is more important than substance in Al Davis eyes.
