With all the top 10 lists that have been coming out lately, I thought I would come out with one of my own, the top ten Patriot enemies list. This has nothing to do with what anyone has done during a game against the Pats. This is for people who have gone out of their way to hurt or embarrass the Patriots.

1. John Tomase- What would drive this guy to put out an article reporting that the Patriots allegedly taped the Rams walkthrough before SB36. Not only did he not verify his info, but he reports the story on the eve of the biggest game in Patriot history. Will McDonough had a story about some Patriot players abusing drugs, but he sat on it until after SB 20 was over. Why is Tomase still a reporter in Boston? I would have thought his credibility was shot.

2. Arlen Specter- On the eve of SB42 calls for federal investigation into Spygate. With all the problems this country has, you would think he had better things to do.

3. Matt Walsh- I don’t understand the amount of media attention that was given a disgruntled ex-employee. When the false reports of Patriots videotaping the Rams walkthrough came out, he let it fester for 4 months before stating that no tape exists. If he would have said something when the reports first came out, then he would have some credibility.

4. Mercury Morris- The worst part of trying to go undefeated was having this ex-convict, crackhead come out every week and say, “They ain’t in my neighborhood.” This guy had one decent year in his whole career but ESPN saw fit to have him be the voice of the 1972 Dolphins. Most classless ad I ever saw was the one that showed Eli Manning making a FedEx delivery to Morris with the message ”Still your neighborhood.” This wasn’t Eli celebrating a win. This was pouring salt in the wounds of the Patriots and their fans. Dishonorable mention to Eli for that one.

5. Don Shula- Guy is still crying over the Snow Plow Bowl. Of course, he was on the competition committee and they changed the rule because Donny got his panties in a bunch over this one. I don’t think the Dolphins had another cold weather game in Foxborough while he was still coach. Also made some disparaging remarks about Spygate.

6. Mark Schlereth- Of all the ESPN commentators that discussed Spygate and blew it out of proportion, Schlereth was the worst. He reported that the Patriots would take the tape of the first half and use it in the second half of games. Not only were there no facts to back this up, it was logistically impossible. He called BB a liar. BB never lied. When confronted about videotaping, he owned up to it. When Schlereth was an offensive lineman for Denver, the Broncos were notorious for being the worst chop blockers in the NFL.

7. Warren Sapp- Called out Russ Hochstein and tried to embarrass him before SB38. Also said, “If I ever get beat by the Patriots, I will retire.” Of course, the next time they played, the Patriots won and Sapp did not retire. Big fat liar. Oh, and Hochstein has 2 rings and Sapp only has one, so I guess Russ wins.

8. LaDainian Tomlinson- This guy, while talented, is the biggest pouter I have ever seen in the game. He calls out the Patriots for celebrating on the Charger field and throws the “No class” tag on them. He totally ignored the actions of his own teammates before and after the game. “They must get it from their coach.” I’m sorry, but I never saw BB dance on the field. “If they ain’t cheating, they ain’t trying.” Who does he think he is? I live in Southern California and I am so sick of the deifying that goes on out here with Lady Tomlinson. He couldn’t even come up with his own nickname. To me LT is Lawrence Taylor.

9. Mike Ditka- In SB20, with a comfortable lead, he puts in Refrigerator Perry to score from the one yard line. I would not have had a problem if he put in Walter Payton and let the best RB in the NFL get a SB touchdown. But he put in Perry as a gimmick to embarrass the Patriots. Then in 2007, he was one of the biggest critics when the Patriots were “Running up the score.”He said, “Show some class.” Big hypocrite. I guess all that Propecia went to the wrong head.

10. The 2001 Oakland Raiders- They seem to blame the call on the “Tuck rule” for their downfall in this decade. What about the fact that the tuck rule was called against the Patriots earlier in the season? Doesn’t matter. What about the bogus roughing the passer call in 1976? Doesn’t matter. What about all the controversial calls that went the Raiders way over the years? Doesn’t matter. I have never seen a bigger collective group of crybabies.

Dishonorable Mention

Shannon Sharpe- Totally disrespected the Patriots with the whole ”Mr. President. Send the National Guard. We are killing the Patriots.” The phone ringing after he hung it up made it funny, but he still dissed the Patriots.

Matt Millen- Millen hit Patriots GM Patrick Sullivan after the Patriots beat the Raiders in 1985. This upset me, until I remembered how much I wanted to smack Pat Sullivan myself.

Zeke Mowatt and Lisa Olsen- Mowatt for not keeping it in his pants. Olson for blowing it out of proportion. Most embarrassing episode in Patriots history.

LMAO!! Too funny. Well done. Where's Polian?

The Tuna is no.1 imo, taking off like that and taking Curtis Martin with him.

You left out the Rat Mangini. He would be near the top of my list.

Merryl Hodge is up there with Schlereth. AT least I have heard Schlereth say good things about the Pats, but Hodge looks for every reason to discredit the Pats.

Joey Porter.

I'd love to punch him right in the face.

Matt Walsh
Arlen Specter/Comcast
John Tomase/Boston Herald
George Lampman (Bernard Pollard fan club t-shirt guy)/Steeler fans
Gregg Easterbrook/espn in general (too many to name all of them)
Gary Meyer/New York Daily News/Jets fans
New York Times
Bill Polian/Colts/Colt fans
Joey Porter/Dolphins/Dolphin fans
Jack Tatum/Raiders/Raider fans

There's many others I may have missed, but those all come to mind.

Would have thought the whole league after they all got on their high horses in '07 and condemed the big bad Patriots.

I love #9, that's such a good call. Walter Payton not getting the ball in that spot was an embarressment for all of Football.

Raiders...Holy Roller. Just saying, we all have our "miracle" plays.

Tatum, Mangini, Parcells. The latter two because rather than doing their jobs, they were too busy trying to land a job with the Jets (bonus stupidity points for actually wanting to work for the Jets).

Also love #5...just because Don Shula is one of the most Over Rated BIG Game coaches of all time. Sure in the Regular Season the guy has records, but he also has lost more Super Bowls than he won, 2-3. Plus, he was the Head Coach for the Colts when they lost to the Freaking Jets...the only SB win ever for the Jets and he was the Coach of the Losing Team.

His last Title was in 1974 and he never won another Title throughout his career as Coach of the Dolphins all the way up to 1995. That's 21 years of coaching with the same team, yet never winning the Title again. But he's considered "one of the Greatest".

Brett Favre, for the monumental tank job he pulled in the final regular season game vs. the Dolphins to eliminate the Pats from the playoffs.

If you watch the tape, you cannot tell me that the pick 6 he threw in the final minutes was not absolutely intentional. Then running down the tunnel smirking afterwards. Hopefully the Pats will play the Vikings in the SB and Favre gets his final due.

Don't forget that we needed Favre to beat the Jets in 2002 to make the playoffs and he tanked it then also. Lightning does strike twice.

It was tough keeping the list at ten. Parcells and Mangini do deserve to be on the list. But I would have put Chuck Fairbanks on before those two. Announcing that he was leaving to go to Colorado the next season was one thing, but to do it with one game left in the season and before the playoffs was unforgivable. But Fairbanks and Parcells both brought credibilty to the Patriots and did some good things while they were here, so I decided not to put former Patriot coaches on the list.

Something I find funny about the Raiders crying about the tuck rule is that they had their chance to win it all the next season and got absolutely demolished by the Buccaneers. It just seems stupid to me for them to still whine about it and how it cost them a chance to go farther in the playoffs when they sucked so bad in the big game the following year.

100% correct. I mention that to Raider-heads out here in the bay all the time.

Also when they say "Tuck rule"...I come back with "Tuck WHAT......?" they say "tuck RULE"...

Then I say...Oh yeah, because its in the books as a RULE, it needs to be respected. Don't like it? Change the RULE!

PLUS....the tuck rule happened in the 4th quarter. the Raiders had ample time to stop the rest of the drive to the game tying 45 yard amazing kick. They also had all of overtime to try and stop the patriots (Mostly Jermaine Wiggins and JR Redmond)....and didn't.

Sugarbear Hamilton payback is a b!tchhhh....

Great idea for a thread and a good list!

I'd add the Rat, way up at the top. Living in New York, I'd add Gary Myers, the NY Daily news columnist who was responsible for stirring up a lot of the Spygate stuff nationally.

I'd take Shula off simply because he was otherwise so great. I'd also take Sapp off, not because he isn't an idiot (which he is) but because he's...well...um...just an idiot...doesn't deserve to be in this company. I'd also take LT off because he spoke in the heat of the moment and later qualified what he said.

I'd change "The 2001 Oakland Raiders" to "The Oakland Raiders." Jack Tatum. Darryl Stingley. 'nuff said!

Totally disagree. That was just "Tuna bein' Tuna." He's a self-centered egomaniac, but one of the greats. His arrival in 1993 was the beginning of the sea change in the direction and future of this franchise, solidified a year later when Bob Kraft bought the team. As for his "taking Curtis Marin with him," Curtis was a full-growed, adult human being who made his own decision.
