I am trying to figure out without looking it up of any major name players and game changers who are coming back from the IR list for all or most of last season and all I could come up with besides Brady is Shawne Merriman who should also make a big improvement and impact on his return.

Any others to mention that should almost single handedly make a big impact with their team upon their return to the field in 2009?

Hopefully Shawn Crable has 5-8 sacks for the Pats. If he does, that's a pretty big IR impact.

Na, hardly anyone unless that Adalius Thomas guy amounts to much anymore. But that's just that one insignificant team in the NE.

Yeah,Thomas comeback seems like its an important one as well,Hopefully that arm is back to full strength.

I am thinking Matt Schaub might be a big difference for the Texans as well.

Shawne Merriman is toast ... all he had was rushing the QB and that's gone.

Absolutely.

The legend of Shawn Crable begins now and we get to witness it's very genesis, as the future scourge of NFL quarterbacks humbly begins his ascent to Canton.

Pierre Woods

Fred Taylor, Brandon McGowan, Adalius Thomas, Shawn Crable, Laurence Maroney, Terrence Wheatley, Tedy Bruschi, Ryan O'Callaghan, Pierre Woods, Tank Williams, Al Johnson ... j/k

Obviously Brady and Merriman are the biggest names. Reggie Bush and Rashard Mendenhall are more well known, but as far as having an impact to his team's success I'd say the next player I can think of is Green Bay's DE Cullen Jenkins; his missing most of the season had 10x more to do with the Packers not doing as well as they did the previous year than their change at QB. It may also be interesting to see how Keith Rivers does because of the Mayo-Gholston-Rivers comparisons from the 2008 draft.

Like him or not,Merriman is one of the top 10 LBs in the game and probably top 5 ILB

I will bet he gets 11-14 sacks in his comeback but hopefully comeback player award is Brady's to win.

Besides Tom Brady the only ones back from IR that I could think of are : Adalius Thomas, Pierre Woods and Shawn Crabel.

Don't you think Coach Dean Pees is hoping for the same thing?

Long arms, quick feet, great motor.

BTW, Coach Pees is probably happy Dom Capers is gone. What did Capers do for us last year, exactly?

Well, if we believe the sort of stuff you post, he practically walked on water to get this defense a #8 scoring ranking. How he was able to accomplish that with nothing but pee wee league players (based upon your posts) is nothing short of miraculous.

Dom Capers was supposed to bring a more aggressive defensive gameplan, I sure didn't see it. I saw the same "play 10 yards off the receiver and don't pressure the QB" gameplan the Patriots have had for the last few years.

When did BB say that?

A bunch of people looked at Capers and decided he was here to fix the defense, their speculation has become gospel even though they pulled it out of thin air and talked it up like the second coming.

Capers was a position coach for the secondary. Nothing more, nothing less, and he did okay considering all the issues the secondary had last season. Good luck to him in Green Bay, let's see how young Boyer does with a nearly new CB corps.

We were the eighth best defense with the number one defensive line and two of the greatest defensive minds in the NFL working together. Hmm.

I'd like to see your face, Deus Irae. Is it as pimply as your post?

I expect we'll do better with a much-improved defensive secondary.
