Buddy who is a big Alabama fan sent me this:

Exciting and sad: I am leaving The News to become Patriots beat reporter for the Boston Herald - The Rap Sheet - al.com

This guy is pumped... kinda.
I'm sure there are a lot of you who know this already thanks to our friend Twitter... but my time at The Birmingham News is coming to an end.

Recently, I accepted the job of lead Patriots beat reporter for The Boston Herald.

So does this signal the end for Tomase? Let's hope so.

BTW, FWIW, buddy, a die hard Bama fan, says this guy is a total hack, so he should fit right in.

Obviously tubby won't be missed.

This guy should fit right in. The Alabama and Boston sports scenes are so similar. Maybe he can write a Pats history like cheesehead.

(I'm assuming, you're not from Wisconsin, Chris:D)

Yes..I would throw bone to him..if it meant he disappear...HE did one of the most underhanded things a reporter can do..amd I hope he rots in HELL!!! As for the local cheesehead..he can follow in that same path....Whether this giuy is a hack or not..if he knows football..he might be good!!!

My guess is that the Herald has Tomase stick with just covering the Red Sox. The right business decision would have been to make a move after the walk-through article. At the very least he should have been taken off the Pats beat at that point in time as he was nothing more than a distraction from that day forward.

In a way I'm surprised the Herald would hire another writer to cover the Pats since they already have Ron Borges and Karen Guregian; I'm somewhat surprised they would hire a third writer to cover the Pats.

It's too bad Tomase decided to take the low road. I recall there was a time a few years ago when he was actually a good columnist covering the Pats, before he (or his editors) decided to shift focus from insightful analysis to contrarian negativity.

Agreed..and the Herald really just put it all on him an dNOT AT ALL on the editors who seemed blameless although..should have been taken to task!!!!

Borges will do features here there..usually strikeouts but once in awhile a homer...maybe they are grooming a young one to step up.

Well..I never saw that he was all tha good..he was off and on..incredibly inconsistent..although SOME on here were saying he was as good as Reiss at the time...I didn't...and never liked him all that much..although Breer was better by far.

Sooo...in keeping with the positive vibes in this thread, I should expect the announcement that Tomase is the new Sports Editor for the Herald?

Don't say that- you might see a mass heart attack or worse!

Tomase has been on the Sox beat all summer.

As to the comments about his being a hack...Bama fans are among the most loyal and die-hard in the country, and it would be a surprise if he didn't rub some of them the wrong way. But readers' comments on his announcement have many words of praise...his bio makes him seem a young, smart guy with limited experience, but the fact that he's covered football in a market like Tuscaloosa will help--that's better training than many pro teams.

Last posting by him on the Patriots beat was June 10th, last article was approximately June 4th.

The mistake was letting Albert Breer get away. He was awesome covering the Pats - especially his reviews of game tape - and should have been the only guy covering the Pats. But for some reason they teamed him up with Tubby, and Breer went out and found a better job down in Dallas.

not surprising considering it must be difficult for Tomase to even step foot in the Patriots locker room.. surprising that it took a full year for the Herald to realize it.
