Tide legend Hannah stresses leadership

By Jason Bowen
The Daily Sentinel
Published July 9, 2009

John Hannah played football at the University of Alabama and for the NFL's New England Patriots.

Throughout both his college and pro football hall of fame careers, Hannah says leadership was the key to all those teams' successes and failures.

I never knew Jim Ringo was the pat OLine coach (under Berry, I guess). Talk about greatness coaching greatness.

Close thinking, but it was back under Ron Ernhardt from '78-'81.

Thanks, the only clue I found was a Brian Holloway article where he mentions Ringo.

Hard to imagine Erhardt was coach that long. I must have repressed a lot of those memories.

Of course one of those was the dual coach clusterfunk after Fairbanks dismissal.

There's a lot of us with selective memories from those years.....

I wonder if there's a youtube clip of Schaeffer Stadium singing the "Na Na" song when Coach Fairbanks departed the field. Amazing moment, only eclipsed by the players going around the field in 2001 at the end of the Oakland playoff game when the stadium was slated for demo.

I had no idea Chuck Fairbanks was so instrumental in making the NFL what it is, but apparently it's true.

Yo tambien.

Do you remember Rod Rust walking off the field with that player? Can you name the player?

You and I are becoming old-timers apparently.

I watched every game of that 2-14 Rod Rust year. I wonder how many people on this board did the same (if they were of age).

I never thought the bandwagon would run through Foxboro.

Fairbanks was BB BEFORE there was a BB. He was an organizational genius. The difference was he had Billy Sullivan as an owner, and BB has Bob Kraft. If he had had true control of the Pats, pats fans wouldn't have had to go through so many hard seasons. And the Steelers wouldn't be the only team with 6 lombardis

That's a great point.

It all starts at the top. I learned that in the Army.
