HOF worthy but with his reputation as others see it as a dirty hitter, I seriously doubt he will see Canton ...he should but won't and the HGH experiment and suspension probably sealed his fate as a longshot at the honor.

Ronnie Lott was by far the best Safety in NFL history, but Rodney is really not that far behind him from the top of the list.

I think he'll be considered but won't make it. He didn't string together enough Great years to overcome his reputation. I didn't see much of him before NE so this is just a perception.

I wold love to see him make it though, over the last six years hes become one of my all-time favorite players.

He's right; he is HOF-worthy. And while I don't think he'll make it now, I wouldn't be surprised if public perception softens over the next half-decade, especially if he becomes popular in the broadcast booth.

I don't see the connection between announcing and analyzing games at a network and being on the field is going to change things - Its TWO DIFFERENT occupations and has no meaning on the other.

What he did on the field is OVER,Its now up to those who decide if he is worthy of this honor even if he is the greatest TV analyst ever,it hardly changes anything.

It doesnt change what happened on the field, but it changes many peoples perception and feelings toward them.
I don't think Madden makes the HOF if he goes away in 1979 and never announces, he is largely forgotten, IMO.
Many think Rodneys image will keep him out (personally I think the time missed and possibly rings lost due to injury are a bigger factor) and his next career could change many peoples image of him prior to when it is time to vote on him. Given that writers do the voting, its not shocking to think if he is exposed to them and they like him personally it could have an impact.

I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. His on-the-field accomplishments are without a doubt worthy, but perception among mediot hack voters (think Peter King) is what's probably going to keep him out. So if he can soften up that perception by being a good and likable announcer, his chances will improve significantly. Worked for Michael Irvin.

I was a huge fan of Rodney, but I don't think he was Hall of Fame worthy. He was a very good player, one of the handful of best safeties in the league at his time, and he played the game the right way. But he is not an all-time great, IMO. I'd put him in the Patriot HOF because of his contributions to winning titles, but not the NFL HOF.
