This thread is to see what fans on this website view as their favorite ONE Offensive play and their favorite ONE Defensive play thus far in the Belichick era.

I know this is a tough idea to choose just one play from both sides since there have been about a million snaps since 2000 :), but I know that each of you remembers a special play on both sides that you loved the most so far,so lets hear what those are ...

The two plays on both sides of the ball that stick in my mind as great plays and are my favorites would be....

OFFENSIVE PLAY - The 2007 regular season game at Miami where Brady threw a long bomb to Moss in between two Miami defenders who had Moss blanketed well but Moss seemed to leap high enough between the two Dolphin defenders to have the ball softly tap from his right shoulder and safely into his arms to score the TD - Thats my favorite this decade.

DEFENSIVE PLAY - The game against the Jets in Giants stadium last season (2008) when Adalius Thomas pass rushed Favre back to inside of the 10 and sacked him but the special part of that was the way Adalius took RB Washington along for the ride and actually tackled 2 players at once for the loss - Thats my favorite on defense.

Yours?
.

Vrabel rush, Ty Law int for TD against Rams in Superbowl.

OT deep bomb to Troy Brown to win against the Dolphins

Defensive play- Willie McGinest stopping Edgerrin James on the one yard line to end the game at Indy in 2003.

Offensive play- Flea flicker against Pittsburgh in 2007. Brady to Moss to Brady and over Anthony Smith's head for a TD.

Good choices Bill,Especially the Colts game

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Offensive Play- taking the intentional saftey against Denver on MNF back in '03.

Defensive Play- Gotta be Big Willie stuffing Edge.

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

maverick named my two favorites, but these rank a close second:

After guaranteeing his Steelers would beat the Pats Anthony Smith bites on a play-action fake to Maroney, leading to a sixty yard bomb from Brady to Moss.

Willie McGinest sacks Peyton Manning near the end of the game that appeared headed to overtime in 2004; Vandrjagt misses the long FG on the next play and the Pats win by 3.

Willie McGinest stops Edgerrin James on 4th down with just a few seconds left against the Colts in 2003.

See Bill B. above for a duplicate copy of your selections  :singing:

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Offense: 2007 vs Pittsburgh Brady to Moss, Moss slips, throws back to Brady, to Gaffney for a TD

Defense: 2004 vs Philly in SB 39. Rodney Harrison intercepts the pass to seal the SB victory

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Offensive Play: The entire final drive of Superbowl 36. J.R. and Troy getting out of bounds, Adams kick, all on the biggest stage, it was the greatest drive as a Patriots fan, ever.

Defensive play: Toss up between McGinest stuffing Edge in Indy and Bruschi ripping the ball out of (was it rhodes?) the Indy RB in the playoffs.

The Favre sack might be the funnest memory. But the Willie stop was one for the ages since it cleared a path to another Lombardi, and it did it in Manning's house. Tebucky's recovery and run might have topped that had Willie not been caught hugging Marshall in the EZ.

Lots of runners up for the offense, too. Vrabel as a TE in back to back SB's - somehow becoming a failsafe goal line playcall. Ditto the Brady over the top version of the statue of liberty. But I gotta go with Brady to Bingo for FG range in XXXVI.

Troy keyed my favorite ever ST play, too. The recovered blocked punt lateraled to Harris for a TD that was the key to cancelling all those Steeler SB reservations...

oww....i would agree with both

This is mine as well. That deep bomb to Troy was especially memorable because we always had trouble against the Dolphins in South Florida and that was a huge breakthrough win.

The Ty Law INT for TD against the Rams in the SB stamped my belief that we were going to win that game.

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Offense: Statue of Liberty against Jacksonville in the 07 Divisional Round... had me completely fooled...

Honorable Mentions: (1) Brady to Troy Brown in Super Bowl 38 on the final drive. Troy made a leaping, twisting, difficult catch in traffic after a bogus offensive PI penalty to keep the drive moving. If he doesn't catch that cleanly, it's almost assuredly picked. (2) Brady to Caldwell against San Diego in the 06 Divisional Round. The o-line gave him plenty of time, and Brady threw the perfect ball to put the dagger in. (3) Brady to Patten in 2002 against the Bears in Champaign... the season wasn't anything special, but that was one of the more exciting regular season games of the BB era. Brady knocked away a potential INT from a Bears DL on that final drive.

Defense: Has to be Ty Law against the Rams in SB 36. That was the true "holy crap, they can win this" moment.

Honorable Mentions: (1) Ricky Proehl's fumble before the end of the first half in SB 36... potentially a 10-14 point swing. (2) Technically special teams, I guess, but the blocked FG returned for a TD in the 01 AFCC in Pittsburgh was a 10 point swing. (3) Rodney picking off Manning in the 03 AFCC... first time all postseason that the Colts O had really stumbled, and a big momentum boost in that game...

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

The first plays I could think of are the Brady to Welker fake direct snap to Faulk against Jacksonville in 2007

and

Jarvis Green's strip sack of Manning in 2007 regular season after the 4th quarter come back :)

There are better plays defensively but this is first one I could think of :)

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Offensive play: the Flea-flicker: a thing of beauty.
Defensive play: The Watson play vs the broncos: it's actually an offensive play, but a tackle so he gets my defensive vote. :D

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Favorite offensive/defensive play:

Troy Brown's strip of the SD DB who intercepted Brady in the SD playoff game in 2006.

Marlon McCree ftw. Man, as amazing as that was to see, it must have been a hell of a punch in the gut for Chargers fans.

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Favorite offensive play - In Denver, BB chooses to take the intentional safety and they come back to win (close second - but second because it didn't take any "strategic planning" - the FG to tie the snow bowl game)

Defensive play : Willie gets Edge. Hilarious because he came up lame a few plays earlier (close second - Bruschi takes the ball out of the hands of a Colt in the playoffs).

These are my favorites as well. But to add to the discussion, here are Offensive A and Defensive A.

Offense, Corey Dillon killing the clock in 04 playoff game against the Colts. The run around left end, dragging Colt players and almost getting into the endzone was a thing of power and beauty.

Defense, Tedy's pic and TD against Miami in the Snow ball game.

Special Teams, Troy Brown punt return for a TD against the Steelers in the '02 playoffs.

Re: Tell us your ONE favorite Offensive and Defensive Patriots play in the Belichick

Offensive - Brady to Moss vs Buffalo in '07. Brady stands with time then delivers a perfect throw to the back corner of the end zone, then Moss jumps up snatches it and taps his toes down for the score.

Defensive - Adalius Thomas vs Chargers in '07. Phillip Rivers is picked off by Thomas and returns it about 60 yards to the house as if he is a running back.
