Looks like the leon "Pow" Powe era is over.
He was fun to watch when he was on ... what might had been if had a healthy career we'll never know.

Take it easy Leon ... was fun watching you take on the big guys.

Powe feels Celtics career over - BostonHerald.com

The Celtics [team stats], already strapped for roster space as they delve into the free agent market, have decided to part ways with Leon Powe.
That, at least, is the impression left with the 25-year-old forward following a conversation with President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge yesterday.
Powe, who is recovering from his third knee surgery, did not receive a qualifying offer from the Celtics by the Monday night deadline. As a result, Powe became an unrestricted free agent.

Also "E" house is staying in the house ... good move ... like that guy.

Damn. He's been one of my favorite players the last few years. The guy always seemed to get to the basket and finish despite being a bit undersized.

Get healthy Leon so Ainge can bring you back.

Not surprised by the move...never thought he was quite as good as he could be and their need for him was no longer there.

Sorry to see him go, but time for him to move on.

Best of luck to Powe, who always played better than people thought he would.

Straight up I'm gutted by this. The guy doesn't deserve to be let go like that.
I fully understand Danny Ainge making this decision, its just that sometimes money destroys the innocence and purity of professinal sport.

I've been waiting for this post, not that I totally disagree. Everyone knows Powes story and the job he has done for the Celtics (strong game vs Lakers). I also heard Ryan on PTI lecture on the irresponsibility of the Celtics and shame on them.
OTOH, D.A. reminds me of BB in this move. It's not clear when Powe will be able to play next year, nor how much he will have recovered. Timid comes to mind concerning most athletes in the follow up year from this surgery. Isn't the bottom line trying to improve the team by adding players who will make a difference.
What if the Celtics add Wallace and keep Big Baby at the expense of Powe? How does that make Ryan feel?

That becomes a case of how much do they want Wallace vs. how much they want/need Powe...if it comes down to one or the other they are better off putting the money on Wallace.

I just feel that its a bad way to act.
What message does it send out to kids, that loyalty and hard work don't mean anything?

I fully understand that its a business decision. Even Doc Rivers did not want him to go from what has been reported. It was totally Danny Ainge's decision.

I love to see the guys like Leon make it, and the guy to me was on the way up improving all the time.

Look I'll always be a Celtics fan but I have to be honest, if I see Leon make it back again and excel in this sport, I wouldn't be that gutted if we lost a championship to a team he was playing for. As a kind of two finger salute to the business people in the game.

Wish there were more Leon Powe's in the NBA and in all of sports. Bottom line tho, I want my GM not to have any sentimental feelings and always do what's in the best interest of the team. In this instance, its not to sign Leon. There is still a chance that he may join the Celtics, but if not, I wish him the best.

I agree fully on wishing him the best and yes maybe it could happen that he comes back.

As I said I understand that Danny Ainge has a job to do. It just sucks is all. I mean now we have a ridic starting five after signing Wallace. It was needed too with Shaq joining the Cavs.

Yeah I hope when Leon makes it back that he comes back to Boston. I'm not giving out about Ainge, I'm just saying that sometimes its horrible to see things like that happen. Especially to a guy who has made from the most unlikiest of circumstances and played a crucial role in our Championship a year ago. I mean its just that you would like to see him being taken care of and feeling like part of a family in the organisation.

Anyways its done and onwards and upwards from here hopefully for the Celtics and Leon.

Agreed.
Remember way back when...the NBA had many rounds and the Celtics used a late pick to draft a college player who was wheel chaired.

On the one hand, I like Powe a lot. On the other hand, I think Powe hasn't passed the ball since the 5th grade, and I never mind losing a ball-hog too much.
