The Panthers with the signing bonus are paying him a 1 year base salary estimated to be about $19M !!!

For that much I would sign with ANY team,even the Lions or Raiders!!

It looks like he didn't sign a tender ala Asante Samuel and Albert Haynesworth which stats that his team can't franchise him the following season. That's a very bad move on his part if he really doesn't want to stay in Carolina. Looks like he will get franchised next season.

Well, if the Panthers franchised him next year, wouldn't he get a 25% raise? That would mean he'd be paid 17m + 21.25m (I think the franchise is 17m, I might be wrong) for two years. I think he'd be OK with that.

That's ~$40m over two years. YIKES!

The article doesn't go into any specifics so unless there is more stuff out there, he may very well have signed a no tender agreement, we just don't know.

I'm also not sure, how does next years possible no salary cap affect the franchise tag, if at all?

Bill said very clearly that he would not deal with any player until he signed his tender and his advice to any player in Pepper's position would be to sign - sooooo according to Belichick this would be the beginning of a trade.

Of course, I don't think there is anyway he comes to our team.

It was never looking good, but BB did say he wouldn't negotiate a contract through Peppers' agent. That's not to say he'd never do it, but certainly not for a contract this big.

It's actually 20%, not 25%, and the tender is $16.6M, so it's $36.5M for two years. That last million'll be a dealbreaker, though.

Also note, given the terms of the antiCBA, the Patriots could not trade for him the following (uncapped) year either (unless they traded Brady or someone else with the same or higher salary).

I think we'll just have to see how Woods or Crable do at 10% of the cost.

You mean to tell me he signed a GUARANTEED contract for 17 million this year, and then will get another 25-30 in guaranteed money next year too--putting him above Haynesworth, Stafford etc, for a 2 yr guaranteed total of approx. 45 million

Complete shocker, I expected him to come here at a 'reduced discount' for 4-5 million dollars, just like the 25 page numerous threads predicted

We're loaded with picks and Peppers is on the block (Common sense is they'd be exploring getting something of value for Peppers rather than letting him ride out for nothing) Please, let this move happen. We're way past draft picks now and Carolina's not just going to give the guy up for free so what would it take? Wilfork? Seymour? + 2010 picks?

If he even wanted to come here for cheap, he'd have to sign the tender. That's just what the insane value is for a franchised DE. Nobody honestly knows if he'd come cheap or not. The NFL is filled with 80% Asante Samuel's and 20% Brady's that are happy with their millions but want to win above all else. Peppers is probably one of the 80%, but you never know.

How are they "way past draft picks"? Yes, 2010 draft picks are a usable commodity. And Peppers isn't going to be that expensive in trade.

The Pats could package Green and Woods to Carolina for Peppers and it would be an even swap, imho. And the Pats could easily give Peppers a new contract that would be more than fair. The problem is how to do it while also trying to get Wilfork to a contract extension.

Sure. Carolina has him for what, 2 more years for sure? Before they let a player of his caliber walk away for NOTHING, you don't think they'd trade a disgruntled guy for a 2nd rounder? I do. You're getting something for nothing, as they probably lose Peppers anyway down the line. But your trade proposal is ridiculous, I think Belichick would cuss their ass out for even asking such a dumb trade. At most this guy costs a draft pick or two. Maybe a player to exchange salaries in a way? Honestly who knows. Both sides have leverage, when you think about it.
