Does anyone recall the logo which fans booed out in favor of the then-current Pat Patriot logo circa 1979? What did it look like? Does anyone have any images?

I recall it was a stylized, squarish waving American flag with the chisled profile of a Patriot's face on the (left?) edge, evoking the former Old Man of the Mountains face in New Hampshire. I believe there were no stars in the flag, just the blue field and a reduced number of red/white stripes.

Thanks

They talked about this on PFW in Progress a few weeks ago - I'm sure if you e-mailed them they would answer the question on the show tomorrow - or someone here with a better memory of the discussion can tell us.

This would be a great find. I searched seven ways from Sunday on Google and couldn't find it. Pro'ly because it was pre-internet (August 24, 1979).

My bet is it is better than Elvis.

A dollar to whomever produces an image.

If you contacted he who shall not be named (NEM), bet you he would have it.. he used to make up wallpaper with all that stuff...

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

I have a 1979 schedule that on the front cover has a "Captain America" looking type of Patriots cartoon character on it. I'll try to photo download and display.

Wow. I had completely erased that from my memory - and for good reason. That's just horrible; it may even be worse than Steely McBeam.

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

Thank god for sanity and common sense.. pretty gross.

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

Yikes. "Failed" indeed. Ambiguously fascinating character.

LOL! Not that there's anything wrong with that!

NO, NO ! Nothing wrong with that at all ! He might not play on the same team as I do (didn't see him on the bench or at practice) but there is nothing wrong with his team.

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

That guy isn't what was painted on the field for the fan vote, though. Thread starter described what I remember; a profile of a (somewhat) Elvis looking character against a blue rectangle.

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

Holy sausagefest Batman!!!
Wow!

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

Those are the kinds of meaty thighs, tight abs and bulging package that I like to see on all of my mascots. Today's mascots are way too fat and hetero for me.

Re: Failed 1979 logo.

It looked something like the patriot in this image only it had a square flag around it.
