His post-season play and ability to inspire his team mates to make the clutch plays when needed. There's also not been footage of Brady lambasting his own team mates, with the graphic audio attached. I'm sure there have been instances, but not as demonstrated by Peyton. Peyton's off field performance this pre-season has been less than complimentary to the Colt's organisation, mis-reported or not.

A leader leads by his own actions or his ability to inspire or improve those around him. IMO, I'd rather having Tom Brady leading the team than Peyton Manning.

You forgot to mention that Brady has never voiced his displeasure over losing coaches, to the media! and god knows that boy has lost some coaches compared to Manning.

Either way it doesnt matter because any idiot can see that Manning is better. Afterall, he won a SB. Oh and Brady, up till 07, had little talent at WR compared to Manning. Brady also has yet to master the art of whining.

Michael Smith prefaced his comments by saying he was being somewhat the contrarian.

I think the stat argument went out the door in 2007. Sad thing is the Colt fans responding to the rest of ESPN giving Brady the nod are now whining about how they'd like to see Brady win with the crew Manning had to work with last season. I guess they missed 2001-2006 when he even won in the post season absent talents like Moss and Welker. Of course they also fail to acknowledge that Welker was a former UDFA who most scoffed at trading a second for in 2007...

Both Manning and Brady elevate the play of those around them by challenging them. They just do it differently. Tom behaves more like an in the trenches with you leader. And Brady's approach includes a financial component. In the end he does more than elevate their play, he creates a mentality/atmosphere where they want to run through walls for him.

Can't say I'm overly bothered by what Michael Smith thinks in this instance. He's in the minority, and he's obviously wrong. Don't think I'm going to lose sleep over it.

Any of us who've seen the Colts play dozens of times over the last decade or so, and we all have, have obviously observed all that Manning does during a game interacting with his teammates on the sidelines. He doesnt. After every series, the guy goes back and sits on the bench and throws his nose in a collection of photos. He doesnt show support for the other players. He doesnt really interact much with his teammates. Hell, Marvin Harrison would walk to the other end of the bench, nowhere near Manning, and sit by himself the entire time. And that type of stuff may not factor in when youre playing Houston or Cleveland in the regular season. But when youve reached the playoffs, and teams are reaching for any and every edge they can find, the level of support players offer one another, the level of unity within the team, can elevate many a player. It clearly hasnt happened much over the years in Indy. And to that, you point straight to the leader. jmho.
