I like it. Good youth and depth, without putting a hole in the wallet.

According to PFT, Ohrnberger's deal has a $451K signing bonus.

So: $310K base + 1/4 x $451K = $423K

As I wrote:

Chung $770,000
Brace $725,000
Butler $715,000
Vollmer $575,000
Tate $500,000
McKenzie $470,000

Ohrnberger $425,000
Bussey $350,000
Ingram, Pryor, Edelman, Richard $310,000-$330,000

:rocker:

wait, we signed all these guys already?

No. I was just predicting what the salary cap hits should be.

Ohrnberger's the first one to sign.

Hopefully he'll be the first of what I hope will be a seamless rookie signing period.

There's something about this guy...
#1-the Pats trade Hobbs for the right to draft him
#2-he's the first to sign
#3-he's taken ahead of a few guys that some thought were rated higher

Makes me think that he not only has a "slam-dunk" roster spot (obv 4th rounders should anyways) but he has a very good chance of being a contributor sooner rather than later.

good for him, went to HS around me

If nothing else, this will be one of the most cost effective draft classes that the Pats have signed in years. I still can't believe they used 12 picks and have like what 2-3 extra 2nd rounders next year as well? Unbelievable value.

In BB We Trust!! :D

Yeah, I think this young man is the real deal. Although he may lack prototypical size at 6'1" and 291, he more than makes up for it with intelligence, drive, tenaciousness, and a simple love of the game.

I'll take a determined 290-pounder any day over a lackadaisical 6'5" 330-LB guy. Michigan State had just such a player as a senior last year, Roland Martin. Problem is: He's no Rich Orh[e]nberger.

Check out Rich's eyes. The Patriots get guys who have not only the skills and intelligence, but that "eye of the tiger" look.

You can see it with Patrick Chung and again with Richie O. YouTube - PSU OL Rich Ohrnberger

Here's Roland Martin, NFL body but no drive & determination. He came into East Lansing ranked as high as the fourth best high school O-lineman, but just couldn't put it together as a dominant player. He was only...decent.

There have been numerous 6th and 7th round picks signed this year.

Will this be the only pick signed by the Patriots until mid July? Why

do they delay signing picks each year? On the other hand, the Bears

sign their picks early every year.

Why do they delay signing picks each year?

Because (A) they don't have to be signed until TC begins, and (B) for the higher round picks, once they sign, their entire salary counts against the cap. [In Ohrnberger's case, that's currently irrelevant, but it will matter for the guys taken ahead of him.]

I still say he ends up on the PS.

People assume because he was an unknown the pats drafted in the 4th round (I know gosselin had him top 100 but no one else did, not even close) that he's going to be a diamond in the rough.

I think he'll be Guss Scott part II or whoever their latest late round OL busts were.

Sorry but he's PS material. The only thing I remember hearing about him is how Mitch King of Iowa abused him. Not good.

it rich orhnberger had to start first game, whose spot would u guys like him to take? Koppen, Neal?

He won't have to, hopefully.

I think you'd have to be a border-line mentalist to play him ahead of Koppen or Neal.
