I cannot believe that NFL teams owners/FO have actually visited and contacted this bum,convict and waste of roster space and worthless draft pick to want him to try for their team.

Are the owners so desperate for a winner that they must resort to prisons to seek out help?

The Vick situation is one thing,at least he served his time,but this clown wants to get an early out of jail pass so he can have the right to be a millionaire or at least decently rich if not for a season or two? - Besides,his very short pro career was not exactly awe inspiring.

I say keep this loser behind bars until he finishes his sentence as delivered and slam the door on his football career,at least in the USA.

Maybe it was the Bengals or Raiders or Mangini who talked to him - All I know is these convicts who do these sort of crimes should have no right to be allowed back in.

Your bizarre off-the-wall rant seems to imply GMs and owners are lining up at Clarett's cell to sign him to a contract. I think you're forgetting that Clarett couldn't even make an NFL team when he was first drafted, let alone after several years of not playing in prison. This is just kind of funny, because Clarett's deluding himself into believing he still has an NFL career ahead of him. The only person here who seems to think Maurice Clarett has an NFL future is Maurice Clarett.

By the way, Clarett was charged with carrying a loaded weapon without a permit - the same charges fan-favorite Jabar Gaffney had brought against him (further, it wasn't Gaffney's first arrest either). He probably deserves to have served some time, but he's no Ray Lewis, either.

No, he was charged with two counts of aggravated Robbery and four lesser robbery counts. While awaiting trial he was stopped and charged with carrying a concealed weapon when he was found with four loaded weapons, including an AK-47 on the front seat.

Gaffney had a handgun and a legal permit from Texas that didn't apply in New Jersey. He admitted to petty theft in college and got six months probation.

According to that then logic says that means some teams have interest in a convict and former NFL player with apparently little to no ability - There ARE desperate teams out there.

IMO, it's simple. He should do his time and pay his debt to society as defined by the courts. After that, if he's kept in shape, he should be given the chance to try out in a way that is consistent with NFL policies, etc.

As long as it is accepted that ex-cons can play in the NFL (or any league), once they've satisfied the demands of the judicial system, there's no reason to give one guy an opportunity and ban another. At that point it's a decision based solely on a player's abilities and whether he can meet the team's needs and be able to be a positive presence in the locker room.

If he's good enough to play, he ought to get a chance. He's done his time, and whether you look at prison sentences as rehabilitation or retribution, either way he's presumably back to square one and doesn't owe anyone anything. It's pretty smallminded and unfair for people to claim that he should have to keep paying for what he did. All in all I think it'll end up being a moot point though.

Clarett's attorney said that.

"Clarett's attorney, Percy Squire, says his client has an opportunity to play NFL, arena or Canadian professional football if he's released within the next few months. NFL teams have contacted Clarett in prison, but Squire wouldn't identify which teams."

It's an attempt for him to get his client out of prison and to the halfway house quicker. It's a non-story.

This I agree with as well. The point of the prison system is rehabilitation. If he's done his time, then he should be free to pursue his career. The problem is he wasn't any good though; he'd rather have hung out and party with Suge Knight than play football.
