Vollmer is legit. Watching a few of his videos, I got to see several really good things. First, he dominated Larry English in the drills. English won every matchup on the practice tape other than when he was against Vollmer. Second, Dante was working him out in one of the tapes. He had him doing quite a bit of kickslide drills. He's quick into his kick step, explodes off of his plant foot, and keeps his weight balanced. Dante started doing that agressive clapping players live to hear coaches do several times during the workout. In another drill, he was blocking two defenders. Kicking towards the outside guy, pushing off and driving hard to the inside. This drill simulates picking up delay blitzes. Vollmer was scary fast in his footwork. I'm talking Ryan Clady feet. In run drills, he got his ass low, exploded through his hips, and drove upwards with his arms. He looks like a nasty inline guy. Some other drills showed him clearing out into space on screen drills. Vollmer was quick into his bucket step, exploded into his screen zone and settled nicely once he arrived.
Add all of these to his unquestionable intelligence, high character, track record of success, clear work ethic and one begins to see why he was drafted where he was. He's going to be a special player, and my favorite German genetic engineering experiment to date.
