Months ago, there was this "parody" of a now infamous thread about a guarantee some member made of some player NOT making the team (maybe a WR)...

I forget the specifics.
#1) would someone refresh me ?
#2) who's the 09 "guarantee" candidate ?

Re: Tell me the story again please.

I think it was Patten a few years ago. The Seward thread while epic was nowhere near the epicness of the Patten thread.

I recall several threads from about 10 months or so ago guaranteeing Matt Cassel would not make the team.

The original thread was on the old PatsFans board in 2004: "There is no way David Patten makes this team."

Haha ! That's the one ! What was it ? That someone was certain Patten was not going to make it, but it was obv to everyone else that he'd be a contributor ?

P.K. Sam, baby. P.K. Sam.

I have it from a well placed source inside the Pats organization that neither Cassel nor Patten will make the team this year, either.

and Chad Jackson.

I t must be a WR thing.

I think you're right. Even non-technical experts like me think that they can tell a good WR from a bad one. They run fast, catch the ball, and run some more, and that's all there is to it, right?

It took me a while to realize there's much more to it than that.

It's a shame the Patten thread was lost when the Evil One destroyed the old board.

Though not as much of a travesty as the loss of the Carolina Cheerleaders thread.

Oh man, that was a classic.

SO... basically the poster WANTED PK Sam ? ...and wanted to trash Patten ? Nice.

...hmmm, while we're going over "old" material... I do remember the Carolina cheerleaders beinbg involved in some girl-girl action... but what about the thread ? Just got dumped as well ? Who is this "evil one" we speak of ? (man, I really need to get up-to-date with my patsfans.com history lessons)

PJ, there's that whole "massive ego" thing too. Similar to what good QB's need to have, but much more intensive. The reason so many play so well outdoors is it keeps their egos from knocking each other down like they would in a stadium :)

Yes, the thread started in response to the Panther cheeleaders who were arrested after noisily creating a long line in the ladies room of a Tampa bar. It morphed into a life of its own.

Late in the 2005 season the server that patsfans.com was on was the victim of a Denial of Service attack. The site was back up and running a day later but as a result of the attack all the previous threads were unable to be restored and were lost. Anybody that would cause that to happen, and forever take away threads such as "There is no way David Patten makes this team" or "The Carolina Cheerleaders" must have been a very "Evil One".

I see... very interesting...

These are interesting stories. Thank you. Keeps me going in what is about to become a month and a half of nothingness (nfl related anyways - unless someone starts another baby Brady thread... grrr...).

Well I guarantee Maroney and Watson will never again take a meaningful snap.
