Was Jon Morris more deserving to go in before Nance to the Pats HOF?

Donaldson probably never saw Nance play.

He was a special player and, having had seen him speak at our school, a pretty kind man who took time out to encourage city kids to do the right thing. Personally, Im thrilled he was elected. here are severallinemen from the early Patriots that wil have a hard tiem getting into the Patriots Ring og Jonoer . But hrtey al deserve to be there.

Theryy are Houston Antwine, DT, Jon Morris, C, Tommy Neville, OT, (Hawg Hannah's nominee) and Larry Eisenhour, DE.

There should be a special group selction for all these guys as the number who saw them play is getting smaller and the great players of this decade wil get much more attention.as they retire.

I still contend the Patriots ought to un-retire the numbers that they have retired, and simply add the retirees name in smaller type UNDER the number, in half size gold, while they keep the current players name OVER the number as is standard.

While Donaldson has become more contrarian than any other writer that follows the Pats, the article itself wasn't all that bad. The title of the column is a bit inflammatory but he doesn't slam Nance; in fact, he says "let there be no mistake - Nance is not a bad pick for the Patriots Hall of Fame. But Morris would have been better."

When I first saw this thread I thought it would be another hatchet job by Donaldson, but that's not the case this time. Jim Nance was my favorite player on the team when I first became a Pats fan, and Donaldson does have a point that we as fans tend to notice the "skill players" more than linemen.

My choice was Nance but I can understand the logic behind voting for Morris instead. Now if Donaldson can continue to write well thought out, non-incendiary pieces like this going forward, then I may go back to reading his columns on a regular basis.

With all due respect to both Donaldson and Morris, Donaldson is wrong. I'm old enough to have seen Morris play at Holy Cross, Nance at Syracuse and both with the Patriots. Morris was a very, very fine player. In my opinion, Nance was on another level.

Houston Antwine should've been elected ahead of either of them. He is on the All-Time AFL First Team; neither Nance nor Morris can make that claim.

Edit: Jon Morris was elected to the All-Time AFL Second Team. I hadn't known that, so he gets my vote as the player who should be elected right after Antwine, who should've been elected ahead of Nance, who should've been elected after Morris.

I'd go with those four.

You have to realize, a bunch of guys in a room in 1991 (I think) just decided the whole hall of fame at once.

Wasn't exactly the proverbial nationwide search.

Morris was a fine consistent player but was never the best center, Jim Otto was.

I'm glad fans got to vote for all timers, but you are right. Antwine wouldn't be far behind Hannah in the first group that should have been in there. Probably top five. Fans love RBs and QBs.

Nance had two outstanding, record breaking years.

Well if we talk about deserving tackles, Leon Gray and Brian Holloway would be ahead of Neville in my book. I watched most every game Neville played and he appeared to be mediorcre.

Hannah made all those guys look like all pros. Hannah's point about Neville is probably that had he played his whole career next to Hannah, he'd be thought of as the best of all three...
