Free agent Brett Favre has undergone arthroscopic surgery to fix the torn biceps in his throwing arm, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

Cortisone injections and biceps exercises didn't fix the problem, so Favre demonstrated his obvious intent to play again by having the operation. Favre has struggled in throwing sessions since the May surgery, however, and his comeback remains on hold. ESPN reports that Favre will not return unless his passing makes "significant progress" before the season. I have no problem with wanting to play for as long as someone's willing to pay you. It's the soap opera that he makes of it, and the stick-it-to-green-bay mentality, that I find annoying.

No biggy, though. Honestly I can't thank him enough for the hatchet job he did on the Jets last season. Which, it should be noted, quite a few of us saw coming a mile away (Pro-tip: Injuries aren't a writeoff. Take a 39-year-old QB who didn't participate in most of the offseason, and that's pretty much what you expect).

I am guessing Deus that you are of the very few here that has the utmost respect for Favre,you must have enjoyed watching him all those years and there is no problem with that.

The problem I see most having here is that Favre should have never said he was retiring to begin with if he felt he had the urge to continue to play and that is what pisses off most fans in here,not because he was not a great QB because he was exactly that and that is despite all those interceptions but along the way he won a lot of games for the Pack that GB probably would have never seen with Majkowski or any another player that may have held the starting QB job all those years.

Favre is a legend and well he should be but its time for him to step out of the spotlight and let the other great QBs like Brady and Manning and the upcoming ones like Brees and Rivers ect: enjoy their prime time and popularity at this point in their careers and he should realize that maybe he should try and look for a backup job if he wants to stay in the league and no one would be so uptight,Favre is no longer a #1 QB and he needs to realize this,He would probably play as a #1 QB as he was last season,decent early and then fading slowly and losing gas after week 10

Favre doesn't make it a soap opera. The media makes it a soap opera. The media makes it a soap opera because people actually care about it. Blaming Favre is simply misplacing your frustration.

As for Thompson, let's just say that Green Bay has taken a major step back by putting him in power.

Finally, we're talking about a biceps issue well into the season, not an "I tore my hammy because I turned myself into a whale during the offseason and tried to run at top speed before getting back in shape" issue.

I don't really agree with that,While he did run out of gas down the stretch,how many other QBs that the Jets had would have had them in an 8-3 position at the 12th week mark?

The Jets simply were not as good as they looked then and Favre did play well early,I am not so certain any other QB would have had the Jets in any better positin at week 12 than Favre did.

Frankly, I've got no dog in the Favre hunt. I've never been enamored with the guy, and I've never had anything against him. I just think that people have acted like idiots about his situation. I've spoken to enough professional football players that I can tell you this: Favre has done publicly what a lot of them have done privately. The thought process about having to go through the offseason training is not one that only Favre has gone through. Toss in his dislike for Thompson and you've got a ready-made scenario.

Furthermore, given that the Patriots pulled Seau out of retirement, New England fans really should probably just shut the hell up about the retirement/unretirement issue. It's hypocritical, to say the least.

Favre is still better than most starters in the NFL. He could die of a stroke tomorrow and his rotting corpse could probably still compete for the starting job with the RosenCopter and T-Jack. Whether that's because Favre is that good, or because the QB position is so lacking in depth, I leave for you to contemplate.

Had Favre not gotten hurt, the Jets would probably have won the division easily. They were 8-3, having beaten the Patriots and Titans, when the bottom fell out. If Favre hadn't injured his arm, the Jets might have been the #1 seed in the AFC come playoff time.
