That's a some good news, hopefully.

Wilfork shows up - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

BOLTON -- Nose tackle Vince Wilfork arrived at the Patriots Charitable Foundation Golf Tournament today at The International.

Wilfork, who is unhappy with his contract situation, spoke on air with Boston sports radio station WEEI but has not answered questions from reporters on site.

The plan will be to pass along a few of his comments from the radio interview and update this situation as it develops.

Nice decision by Vince. Don't let the current negotiations overwhelm everything, including helping out for a good cause.

Classy! Here's to Big Vince playing in it every year for a long time to come:)

Reiss has the transcript: Show Vince some love:D
Wilfork: "Like I said, when I’m dealing with my situation, I’m not looking at none of those guys. I’m my own person. They did what they had to do when they had to do it. Me personally, I’m really not paying attention to those types of numbers. It is whatever makes more sense to me. I want to win, I love the people that I’m around, so whatever makes the most sense.

"I’m not looking to sign this big-time, going-down-in-history, the best contract there is. I want to be comfortable, but at the same time, I want to be with the guys that I go to war with. That’s Ty Warren, that’s Richard Seymour, that’s [Tedy] Bruschi, that’s Richard Seymour, guys like that I want to go to war with, and I don’t think I’ll find any better group of guys or coaches out there. So I don’t want to leave. So I’m pretty sure we’re going to do everything in our willpower to make it work.

When It Comes To Wilfork, Pats Will Either Pay Now Or Pay Later

And now for the contrarian point of view: hopefully Felger is incorrect in his assertion that the Pats have shot themselves in the foot by waiting so long to extend Wilfork.

Michael Felger said:
I’m just curious what was stopping New England from getting to this earlier. It would have been a lot cheaper for the Patriots to extend Wilfork last year, and it would have been a veritable bargain in 2007. It’s not like this situation snuck up on them. The termination date on Wilfork’s rookie contract was presumably written in English.

Bill Belichick and the rest of the organization have been so good for so long at evaluating talent and knowing when to cut ties with older veterans that we tend to ignore their faults. But this is emerging as one. Letting go of guys in their 30s makes sense (we’ll see about Mike Vrabel). But letting guys go in their mid-20s just because they don’t want to negotiate a little earlier? How is that good business?

In a perfect world I agree with Felger but if you do a deal real early and get too good of a deal for the team then you sometimes end up with a holdout in the middle of that second contract. Sometimes it's just best to let it play out.

The Eagles say hi. ;)
