Michael Felger | Patriots, Fans Are Going To Have To Be Patient With Brady

Not a bad article from a writer most of us are not too crazy about.

I do think that like Felger says that we may see a 2008 Manning-Like year early from Brady where Brady and the team looks a bit sluggish in the early going with a few losses during this time but then takes off strong for the playoff push after the Tampa Bay in London Game.

Personally,I see Brady looking a little skittish in the pocket in the first few weeks as I also agree that other teams will be gunning harder than ever for Brady with unlimited blitz schemes to see if his guts are in check.

I think we may see a few occasions early on where Brady may make an early or errant throw resulting in a turnover or two because of a being bit rusty and worry about another injury to the knee area, but once he is on a roll around mid season, I see no team really stopping him from being the best QB in the league ... again

why post his garbage???

Why ask? - Are you the forum police?
anybody with a half brain knows that felger is a complete idiot and knows little about football and most of the time makes a complete clown out of himself, that said it intrigues me why you would post anything he says, i know its slow, but lets keep media idiots out of this forumn ok? get it?

Comparing Brady's injury to Mannings is frickin dumb....

Manning had the bursa surgury in the offseason, and didn't attend/participate in camp of the preseason. Brady has had a full year of recovery and is working his tail off in training camp. The rust will come off NOW, instead of week 1.

I swear these writers are just typing to attempt to create debate, and its all factless. There are 2 dozen posters on this board who I'd rather read. And that includes people who I hate on the political forum, at leats they bring facts to the table....minus Harry.

sorry I drifted....

This uis an important distinction.

Its crazy how nobody points out the timing of the other QBs injuries.

Manning - Offseason
Rivers - Offseason total reconstruction
Palmer - Playoffs

there is one more I'm forgetting, but they all came back to win at least 8 games...without a full year of recovery etc.

Brady already is established, and comes to camp with an attitude of being reborn. His shoulder is fully healed, and he just MIGHT hav ethe most weapons at his disposal EVER.

why local writers predict doom is beyond me.

I agree comparing the two is silly. Manning had surgery in July if I remember. He still wasn't fully healed when the season started. He clearly wasn't moving well. Add to the fact that the Colts' o-line was in a shambles and there was no running game and Manning was being forced out of the pocket a lot more. I don't see a lot of similiarities.

Brady could struggle at the start of the season, but for none of the reasons Manning struggled.

BTW, Felger consistently said Brady would suck like Carson Palmer did when he came back from his knee injury until I sent him an e-mail informing him that Palmer had 4035 yards, 28 TDs, and made the Pro Bowl that year. I'll take credit for setting him straight since he read my e-mail on the air on WEEI.

Well Felger is correct when he says "Fans are going to have to be patient with Brady" - we still have fourteen weeks to go till the Pats play the Bills.

I like Felger and I like his style and the part I like most about him is everything he says jerks a knot in so many peoples ***es. He's not a Patriots/Red Sox/Celtics/Bruins ballwasher like so many other reporters are, so relax and come in off the ledge already.

Christ.

Manning had the original surgery in July. Then he had an infection that required the docs to cut his knee again to clean it out 10 days before the season started. He most likely had the stitches removed a day or two before the opening game. So the guy hadn't walked normally on his knee in two months and then went out and played in an NFL football game. Of course he struggled.

Palmer had his surgery in February which included a broken knee cap and he was back in the 2nd week of August.

Rivers had his surgery in February as well and he was back for the start of camp.

Bottom line as Holydiver pointed out writers are just trying to stir sh*t up.

That's pretty funny. I don't think Felger even reads half his own stuff. Nothing wrong with this story, it's pretty much the definition of off season filler. It's pap.

Edit: Having read some other posts it sounds like he's making unwarranted comparisons just because it sounds good. Typical Felcher. That's why I never read him, why bother?

That's just the contrarian in Felgy finding fulfillment in having Bert Breer's back after he told all us knucklehead fans to calm down (although in reality it was his fellow knucklehead national mediots who were getting all wound up about Brady's return...

And comparing Mannings situation to Brady's is classic apples and oranges, or as Peyton might say grapefruit...

Manning says his left knee first swelled up "like a grapefruit" just before the 2008 Pro Bowl but, but he passed an MRI and believed all was good.

Then, the knee blew up again while he was lifting weights in April. Continued setbacks led to a crisis on July 14, 10 days before the start of training camp. Manning told King he felt like, "my leg's on fire, it's red, I'm hurtin' bad. I fly to Indy right away and find out the fluid in there's infected. So they tell me, 'We're gonna remove your bursa sac. Pretty standard procedure.' Then the fluid starts to seep back.''

Next, the Colts flew in famed surgeon James Andrews to perform a "quilting" procedure, using numerous sutures to shut off the flow of any infected fluid. But instead of a 30-minute, 20-suture operation, it ended up being a 3-hour, 80-suture procedure.

Three days later, Manning took his first look.

"I looked down, and my knee looked like a brain after surgery," Manning said. "You know how they show you pictures of a brain in science class? That's what this was -- swollen, ugly. I kind of got my hopes up, but it was disgusting. Mangled, in layers, dimples all over it. It didn't look good at all. My heart just sank."

The first procedure was on July 15th and they estimated he would be out 4-6 weeks. The second far more invasive procedure was in August. He not only missed all of TC and the preseason, he couldn't workout on the knee until shortly before he was cleared to play in the opener. He was beyond rusty, he was still gimpy and had several new teamates with whom he had zero timing heading into the season. He also had OL issues and new teamates who had never played with him being worked into the offense at a time when old reliable binky Marvin Harrison was on fumes. And he could not complete his patented toss sweep to Addai because he couldn't pivot on the knee...

That is also why those who insist Tommy will not see any action in the pre season don't know what they are talking about...

As someone that is constantly at odds with Diver on the PoFo, I have to completely agree with him here. You just cannot compare every QB that has been injured just for the sake of comparison. Every one is separate.

It's just as likely Brady has a monster year, if for no other reason than to say F you to all the D-heads that said he was gonna struggle/miss the whole season/never be the same. blaa, blaa, blaa.

Is it friggen September yet

I think Brady will have a better adjustment than manning on the season. Of course he'll be thinking twice about running into a pass rusher, or getting sacked thus affecting his passing. But he'll get it together, being patient is the keyword. I remember in 07 when this high powered offence struggled a bit against the Eagles & Ravens. I kept thinking, where are the 50 point scoring offense. But being patient, itll all drop in its right place at the right time.

But Manning didn't have a pre-season so his rust was coming off duing 'real' games. Brady has training camp as well as the exhibition games (which I hope he plays since I've got tix to game one in Philly)to get rid of the rust....I think he comes out guns blazing in the regular season...

Exactly, some people here act like we should expect nothing less than an All-Pro year from Brady. Sorry people, but it might not happen and because a few scribes are trying to prepare us for it possibly not happening, no need to comdemn them to hell.

So, basically you're saying he shouldnt post anything by anyone in the media. Being that most arent that smart

Oh, and they're just preparing us for the worst out of the goodness of their hearts, right? They just don't want us to be disappointed?

I don't expect to see 50 TDs again (didn't before the injury either), but as facts have shown you can't compare Brady's injury to Manning's, because A) Manning is older, and B) Manning's last surgery happened during TC. It has no factual relevance to Brady's case, so the writer's here are just stirring something up to get hits.

No no, you're right, Felger is just concerned and trying to prepare us for the worst

Didn't you know that not being a ballwasher for the Pats is against the rules.
