Wilfork seeking new deal...

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

I kept looking for some new comment or quote from Wilfork in this piece. I guess Mike is just maturing as a Boston mediot and connecting his own dots suffices.

What?!? Three tweets from Wilfork yesterday isn't enough for you. Jeez, your standards are pretty high. :D

the pats hold the cards they can franchise him in a uncapped year, who knows what type of cash hes asking for it has to be reasonable

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

My guess?

The OP meant to type 'seeking' new deal.

wilfork has the body to ballon up to, once he gets his dough

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

Seems like Reiss via the AM chat thinks if he does NOT show up today it will because of not getting a contract...interesting...

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

He has a contract for this year. I expect him to honor it. Was he at the ota's?

Not sure yet...that was the speculation that he might not be...BUT..everyone will know in a little bit of time.

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

I really wish the Patriots would just give the guy an extension already, there is no need to play a game with one of th top NTs in the game. WIlfork is definitly worth the money.

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

It takes two to make a deal. A year early = a little less money per year. If Wilfork acknowledges that I imagine a deal will get done.

This is the 64 dollar question. Is Wilfork at the OTAs? The

media has access today to the players so we will see what's up.

We already know the answer to one question. Why did the Pats

draft Brace? To protect themselves if there were problems with

Wilfork. Don't be surprised if Seymour pulls something similar. He

may refuse to show up if the Pats don't promise, in writing, not to

franchise him next year.

Agreed that we're speculating and most likely unjustly, but hey this is a message board, so if players were go pre-emptive in contract demands the year PRIOR to their contract year, q.v. The Twig, I lose fan interest. It's not like in these cases their original contracts hadn't set them and their extended families for life financially.

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

The fans responding at the Globe blog who say we should sign him now might not realize the Patriots are up against the cap, and if they extend him now, Vince will earn much much less money in the future because your salary can't be raised by more than 30% year to year.

In an uncapped year, you can make a huge balloon payment to Vince in the form of a huge salary (say, $15 million) and then the next few years you can pay him $5 million, for an average of $6-7 million over the life of the contract. The beauty of that is you incur the bulk of the cost in an uncapped year, and you salary cap for the future benefits from added flexibility.

Someone needs to explain this to Vince. The Patriots can pay him a lot more next year than they can this year. They can give him Kris Jenkins' contract, with a big guarantee balloon payment at the start. If only he could wait a year.

Since there isn't one Wilfork quote in the piece, I would entitle it...

Reiss, seeking to fill space, has nose for eyeing and recycling old news and speculation.:D

I would call it, "Big Vince. Hungry."

not sure why everyone is giving it to Reiss so bad....Seems like a valid story to me. Vince has made it clear thru the media he wants a new deal...Here we are in late May and still nothing....Then Reiss is speculating the Tweeting during OTAs meant he may not be at OTAs and tells he will watch for that today. Not sure what is wrong with the story. Its not like this is something out of the blue it has been brewing for sometime.

At 11 A.M. when the team takes the field, we'll know if there is a story

or not.

Re: Wilfork seeing new deal...

How unlike Reiss.
This article is pitiful. Just a rehash of stuff said a while ago. Is he doing Wilfork a favor to try to get some access in the future?
