Question: Which AFC East team...

Re: Question: Which AFC East team . . .

I agree with this analysis. I don't think any of the three will compete for a playoff spot unless Sanchez is as ready as Ryan or Flacco.

1.) Patriots
- Best in the division, and it shouldn't be all that close

2.) Jets (Unless the QB slot really, really blows)
- Defense should be solid, but the QB and WR positions..... not so much

3.) Dolphins
- Likely to take a step back because they weren't very good last year

4.) Bills
- Post concussion QB with a bad offensive line: we may all be playing Taps for Edwards' season early in the year

I think Miami is still the most legit team of the rest. They are pretty good in all areas of the game, no glaring weaknesses like the Jets passing game or the Bills pass rush/left side of offensive line. Pennington is still a top 12 QB. I don't think they will contend, but they will be a very competitive .500 team.

Buffalo is the only team on that list that could potentally land in the playoffs if a few things work out right. I don't think those things will work out, and I think they will tank this year, but they have the most upside.

I'd say that WR and their secondary are both glaring weaknesses for the Dolphins. Their secondary is athletic but extremely young. At wideout, they really have no major threat. They drafted the kid from OSU (whose name escapes me at the moment), but they're still waiting for him to prove that he can be a legitimate wideout and not just a KR/PR specialist.

#1 the jets if there new HC can fix there D and they dont try to sling the ball all over the place like last year. with favre if they play small ball run the football and play D

#2 the fins i put them #2 because i dont think pennington can have the same year he had last year and there star RB is all way's hurt and there wildcat will be a dead cat this year

#3 the bills i think they set them selves back by tradeing there all pro LT there star RB may not play the first 3 game's

i think the pats will win the AFC east they are younger and faster on D and on O brady is back nuff said

predictions

#1 pats at best 14-2 at worst 12-4

#2 the jets at best 12-4 at worst 10-6

#3 the fins at best 11-5 at worst 9-7

#4 the bills at best 9-7 at worst 6-10

I completely agree, you saved me allot of typing.
Jets less Farve and Plus an improved D should be tough.

I don't know how you can say the worst the Jets can do is 10-6. They have the potential to have a very bad offense this year. Even if the defense is strong, they will need to score points on offense. This team has the potential of struggling to be able to score more than 14 points a game on a regular basis. They have a #2 WR as their #1 and marginal talent other than him. Sanchez is already struggling in the OTAs to find the open receivers. Although OTAs aren't great indicators of talent, but it is not a good sign that he will have the immediate success of Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco.

Besides, how much did they really improve their defense? They were 16th in points allowed last year. I don't know if Bart Scott, Lito Sheppard, and Jim Leonard are enough to bridge the gap even with Rex Ryan there now (Marvin Lewis was the defensive genius behind the 2000 Ravens and that did nothing for the Bengals so how will Ryan translate from a lesser Ravens defense?). Also, Kris Jenkins has yet to show that he can play at a high level for 16 games and when his production goes down, so does the Jets' defense.

There is a chance that the Jets get 12 wins, but there is also just as good of a chance that they get 6 wins. There are far too many unknowns on that team to expect that they will at worse do one game better than last year with what looks to be a signficantly harder schedule this year.

On that note, the chances of the Dolphins being 8-8 or even 7-9 is possible too. Although I don't see it as likely as the Jets being .500 or less.

Buffalo no doubt!

Oh yea, its B U F A L O !

You were probably joking but if Aaron Maybin contributes significantly and Edwards doesn't cost them any games I think Buffalo will be right up their with the Pats in the AFC east. I think they will drop two to NE and at least split with NY and MIA. I think they will lose to Indy and Carolina. I think the Bills could win 10 games this season. I think the Pats will win between 11 and 15 games this season. I think NY and Miami also top out between 9-10 wins.

Re: Question: Which AFC East team . . .

While I will admit the Bills are very streaky this statement is WRONG

Yes last yr. the Bills started hot but look at 2007 they started 1-4 and finished 6-5

In 06 they started 2-5 and finished 5-4 so once again WRONG

I guess you're right, the Bills don't start strong and then fizzle out. That was too much of a compliment. Based on your numbers they start like garbage and then finish mediocre. Way to go.

Are you kidding me Without a QB other than a rookie, and little talent at WR or RB, that team could go 5-11...

Good question from the OP, even if making predictions before Training Camps begin and important injuries are sorted out is a dangerous thing. Here's how I see it:

Bills: TO will end up being a case of "subtraction by addition;" the club still doesn't have a QB who can get the ball to him reliably and his frustration will grow as the season wears on. Add to that an HC of questionable judgment and, well, I don't see too much to worry about here.

Dolphins: Chad is a known commodity, both as to his strengths as well as to his weaknesses, meaning that he is a reliable, if not spectacular, producer. The braintrust is second only to the Pats in the Division. It will help a bit that D's will be ready for the Wildcat this year, but I see them as the greatest threat among the three.

Jests: They have definitely upgraded across the Board, but the truism that the most important position in all of sports is an NFL QB will haunt them. As much as I dislike Lord Favregaard's dramatics, no one can say that they are better off at that position this year than they were last year. Another long season in the Meadowlands, with pressure building to fix things before they occupy the new stadium.

Re: Question: Which AFC East team . . .

Last season, I was projecting that the Bills would be a team that made a run but fell short in the end. I believe I said that they were still "a year away."

So, I'll go out on a limb and say that Buffalo is going to make a enough waves to sneak in with a wild card. If Edwards and Owens can get along for one season they could absolutely pull it off. They have all the young talent in the world that just needed a season to jell. Insert another young stud linebacker into the mix + TO and they could really be looking at a strong season.

I think the Dolphins are better positioned to make a run than New York. The Jets have a great mix and will be great in the long term, but short term with Sanchez and a new coach it might be rocky.

They could also go 11-5. Look at what the Falcons and Ravens did last year with rookie QB's. Lets take a look at the schedule and I will give a prediction on what games they can win and what games I think they will lose.

Rookie QBs doing as well as Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco are rare. Even teams with HOFers like Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, and John Elway struggled mightily their rookie seasons. All three of those guys struggled quite a bit their rookie season.

As for the games you have as wins, I seriously doubt they will sweep the Dolphins and they will have more trouble with teams like the Texans, Saints, and Falcons than you give them credit for. The Jets could go 11-5, but they could go 5-11 too.

They could also start off the season at 0-4 quite easily. There's a lot of unknown with that team.

With that running game and improved Defense I cant see them under .500 at the end of the season. We know that teams win games that they shouldn't and could easily squeak out three more. Don't write them off as a pushover.
