Makes one wonder if he reads Pats Fans Fan Forum, anyways it gives a good reason why he did not play well last year.. also some good stuff on Kevin Faulks Softball Fundraiser..

Maroney's shoulder injury was broken bone - The Boston Globe

"I had a broken bone and I was trying to play with it," said Maroney. "It's kind of hard to sit here and play and not tell people what is going on. Everybody is going to think one way because they don't really know what's going on. I dare anybody in this crowd to play football with a broken bone in your shoulder and you tell me how long you're going to last out there.

"Doing it the second game and still trying to play, I feel like it still shows my toughness and my dedication to the team and how much I really want to contribute. The shoulder is great. Not good, great."

Re: Maroney had a Broken Bone in Shoulder..

I want the best for Maroney, but I really want to see him lower that shoulder and power for yards. If he shuffles instead, it will make us wonder, does it still bother him, is he antsy about hurting it again????

Re: Maroney had a Broken Bone in Shoulder..

i wonder if he's being allowed to talk about this now to strengthen the Pats position in trade talks.

You guys are really something. Maroney's most vocal critics probably couldn't play checkers with a hangnail...and he knows it.

The man is going to have a very good year for us. I can feels it.

i thought this was common knowledge, that's why i never understood the bashing.

How could this have been common knowledge, if he just revealed what the problem was? Honestly, I want to know your sources...

I really hope this is his year to stay healthy and be the runner he's shown he can be.

pats breaking the rules again

albeit a very stupid rule

disclosing injuries to help out the gambling community against 'insider info' makes less sense than letting a team use the vagueness of a players condition against his next opponent in preperation

I have never understood the scrutiny of Maroney. In his first 2 years in the league, he averaged 4.5 yds/carry and 6 TD's. Then he got hurt in his third season. True, he has not had a 1,600 yard season but you can't blame Maroney for the team preferring to rotate backs. Actually, we should be crediting him for not being a distraction and complaining in the media that he hasn't got the carries.

I think Coach B knows he has an outstanding young back in Maroney and i thing the F Taylor signing proves it. Had he felt that Maroney was going to be gone, I would suspect he would have drafted or traded for someone younger with less mileage.

I think McDaniels did a poor job of using Maroney. When was the last time you saw Maroney catching one of those swing or screen passes that he did so well with in his rookie year.

I'm with you on that. He could be wicked dangerous as a receiver out of the backfield.

To be fair, a lot of the reporting at the time suggested there were other issues that were occuring alongside the injury that would lead one to question Maroney's toughness and mental approach as well as durability. I was one of the bashers. In light of the injury, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt this season, but he's gotta play at least 14 games and be available for post season play. Anything less solidifies criticisms about his durability.

Florio is getting in on the action, and wondering if we'll be punished.

ProFootballTalk.com - Pats Hid Maroney’s Broken Shoulder

It's BS..
Even though he was hurt, Maroney did play in the week 5 game versus SF. He was listed as questionable for week 3 and did not play and then had a bye in week 4.
IIRC Goddell de-emphasized the probable/questionable/out in favor of the amount of time a player practiced. If Maroney practiced fully ( keep in mind they had a bye week) they were in compliance and having listed his shoulder one prior, it hardly qualifies as ‘hiding’.
I have a strong feeling that should the commissioner try to penalize the Patriots for this one, Kraft et al will not stand by this time. With other shenanigans and hidden sports hernias on other teams not listed, I see this opening a can of worms that other teams really may not want....

That doesn't seem right. Isn't the injury report only used to list players who are not practicing and will not, or maybe not, play in that week's game? What I mean is, maybe Maroney was 100% going to play in week 5, and if that was the case then why should he have been listed on the injury report? As far as I know the injury report is not intended to list every booboo on the team, but rather the players who may not play.

You narrowly beat my reply.

I believe on Wed and Thursday the injury report reflects practice time and then the last report lists probable/questionable/out.

Well, lets hope his injury problems are behind him and begins to contribute. Having Fred Taylor as a mentor can only help his development.

Not sure what you are referring to...what critics showed up here prior to your post?

For the team's sake, Maroney can run well this year. With the offense we have, I don't think he needs to be a dominant back like an Adrian Peterson type, especially not with the other backs that NE has, but he really does need to be healthy and, perhaps more importantly, consistent.

possible - but his agent may also be advising him to begin positioning himself for free agency as well. Letting it be known in public that he'd play in such a condition can't hurt.
