The Pats are so close to the cap, that this amount is helpful.
That would cover two to four vet min replacements for IR players, depending upon when in the season they would come.

NFL Salary cap goes up $12 million

NFL salary cap rises $12 million over last season - NFL - SI.com

NEW YORK (AP) -- NFL teams will have nearly $12 million more under the salary cap this season, the final year with one in place unless the league and its players' union can reach a new collective bargaining agreement.

The cap was due to increase $7 million to $123 million this season, but additional adjustments stipulated in the current CBA will increase the total amount that teams can spend on player compensation to about $128 million. The $12 million increase is the largest in three years.

Good News for several teams.

Hopefully somebody with cap knowledge can comment on what this means for Wilfork... Mankins, Seymour, Brady even.

C'mon capologists we need you!

Oh boy. Here comes more Peppers talk.

Most likely we will have the room to give Big Vince the contract he wants and be able to retain Seymour as well. I don't think Brady is unhappy with his current contract.

EDIT: Oh and I love this news. I'm sure BB does as well...

This would rock more than anything has rocked before.

Re: NFL Salary cap goes up $12 million

This isn't news at all. We already had the cap projected at 127, so in all reality it went up 1 million. There is already another thread posted today that we are 1 more million in projected space.

We are still approx. only 5 million under the cap, with the extra 1 million.

No Peppers talk please.;)

Well, that won't be enough on its own to make much of a difference. The Pats would only get $1 million more based on Miguel's numbers as of yesterday assuming he hadn't already adjusted the number based on this news.

Miguel's on top of it. It increased our space from approx 4.5 to 5.5 under, I believe. Or maybe from 4 to 5 (approx.)

The 12 million was already projected to be 11 million, or in other terms--we went from having 127 to 128 now.

It will have pretty much no effect as far signing Vince, Big Sey, Brady, Peppers, etc. But any small increase is good news, I guess.

True, but that won't stop the parade of Peppers mania here.

Peppers mania? What Peppers mania? I hadn't heard:eek:

Well, I still don't believe it is out of the realm of possibility of a Peppers trade, but it seems extremely unlikely that it could happen. Nothing will stop the trade talks from happening no matter what the salary cap did.

Damn it! They're awesome in stir fry meals, especially when you mix the colors.

Yes now we might have enough to sign Peppers :D and extend wilfork! We all know Brady is going no where so we can resign him next season.

And maybe we can now somehow re-draft Connor Barwin!

There's no decent substitute for them either...it's going to be missed sorely.

Just find a way to resign Vince. That's all I really care about, at the moment.
