Dr. Saturday - NCAA Football - Rivals.com

Boston College senior linebacker Mark Herzlich disclosed today that he has been diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma, a malignant tumor most often found in bone or soft tissue.

Sad news... I wish him well....

I hope he can use his football toughness and approach to beat it.

For sure, that's sad news. This guy is a truly terrific LB. I had hoped to see him playing in Foxboro one day. Still hoping.

Let's not count him out just yet. After all, I don't think all that many people expected Bruschi to be playing less than a year after his stroke. . . .

Needless to say, though, the primary concern at the moment is not his NCAA or NFL career.

How dreadful !

Prayers and best wishes for you, Mark.

Not a BC fan by any stretch but this is horrible. I wish him the best. Such a tough young man, I am sure he will do all anyone can do to beat it.

Life side
My condolences go to his family. Anyone diagnosed with any time of cancer is always saddening.

Football side
This kid is no random kid. He was supposed to be a first round pick. Look up somewhere on the play that he HURTLED a player and sacked the QB.

I hope that he recovers and returns to the game he loves.

Awful news. Love(d) watching this kid play. Hopefully he beats it.

Now, if you're him, do you take a chance and declare for the supplemental draft? Not sure what his medical care package is like at BC and how much they contribute to his therapy, but I'd think it would be tough to beat having a NFL franchise's team doctors and money working with you.

Certainly at least one team would use a supplemental pick on the kid. Something I'm sure he and his family are thinking about ...

Hope he pulls through stronger than ever...

kind of like this guy?.....

....I have very few heroes but John Lester is one of them and I am a Yankee fan. It just shows how a person fighting through life issues is more important than anything on the field but when a player goes through something like that and comes back to the field to accomplish what he did is special. I hope Mark can fight through this and come back to the field where he belongs making plays.

Nice post.

Good luck to this young man.
