How bout Merriman next season?

I would have no problem with Suggs, but im not big on Merriman. Ware will most likely stay a cowboy. Keep in mind, BB likes next years draft, and we have those two extra 2's. I'd rather draft, then blow wads of money on FAs.

When healthy, he is the best "game changing LB" in the NFL besides DeMarcus Ware. If Merriman plays like the Merriman of old, you are nuts if you wouldn't want this guy on your team. And he is only 24! Your telling me that someone on the Pats roster is better than him? The only way Merriman doesn't get franchised is if he has an average year and English has a great year. With that said, I'm pretty sure the Chargers will franchise Merriman.

Speaking of DeMarcus Ware, he isn't going anywhere. Either the Cowboys give him whatever he wants or they simply franchise him.

As of right now, Peppers is the Pats best shot. If Peppers is smart, he will take a page out of Asante Samuel's school of business and have a written agreement that Peppers can't be franchised the following season. Of course, this will happen when he eventually signs the franchise tag.

Suggs will be franchised until he signs long term. Or he can take a page out of Asante Samuel's school of business.

This is funny looking to upgrades for next season because I just have a feeling that Brady is going to start a lil slow like Manning did this past season...but I just feel as if we're going to win this year, with such upgrades on defense and quickness added since the infamous 18-1 season I see another superbowl headed our way.. This time the officials will have no say in who wins this game... I dont think it will even be close.. call me crazy but when it happens remember this post....cuz you're gunna b like

I honestly dont think sd will franchise merriman. They still have to extend Rivers, maybe Sproles, after drafting english I think merriman is last on there list. Im saying he hits free agency.

i think merriman is one of the best LB in the NFL but if sd is that crazy to let him go and we get him thats would meen wilfork and seymour both gone next yer and Merriman would never get to the QB with out dose to big guys blocking for him

Unlike some here, I believe that Merriman is extremely talented.
I still don't want that punk on my team, though. With that behavior, I don't care how good he is.

It would be funny if Merriman becomes a Patriot and we go into SD for a playoff game and he does his steroid dance as a Pat after sacking Rivers. The look on LT's face would be priceless. :)

Behavior? He does a dance, a la Junior Seau, and several other LBs in the game. Wasn't as bad as Hobbs' crap, and I like Ellis.

If we're going to condem him for testing positive, better do the same for Rodney as well.

I believe AJ Smith already said they won't be franchising Merriman.

With that being said, I think he's a great player. Either way, probably a chance to get Merriman, Suggs, or Peppers next year (I think Ware gets franchised), so I doubt they all break the bank. Washington doesn't play a 3-4 and every other team is pretty sane.

SD couldn't pressure the passer at all last year, Merriman is huge for what they on defense. He makes guys like phillips look a lot better. However, it's strange that SD is pretty much open that they won't be keeping him around after this season. Maybe it's the injury, or maybe it's because he's a jerk.

Now if we could get ware...oh man. I know theres no chance, but Ware is one of the top 3 players in the nfl, IMO.

Merriman has the potential to be one great HOF LB when all is said and done,I doubt the Chargers let him go,even if Norm is coach

He's a free agent after this year I believe, how interested do you think BB would be in him? They probably wont resign him since they drafted English at 16 as a future replacement.

I no I no we still have to play this year and should focus on the players on the roster, its a downtime so Im lookin ahead...

That's like saying how'd you like to catch HIV next year? :banned:

Not to argue either for or against whether Merriman would be a good fit or even a feasible option for the Pats, but here's a recent rumor from CNNSI suggesting that the Chargers might let him hit FA:

Merriman's Chargers future in doubt | Truth&Rumors | FanNation

Personally, I doubt it happens. It's sort of the same situation that Carolina had last year with Jordan Gross and Julius Peppers both being FAs. I think that the likelihood is that SD signs Rivers to a long term deal and then franchises Merriman. But stranger things have happened.

I could be mistaken, but I thought I remebered reading that due to the rule changes for the uncapped year, Merriman will be among those that will not be an unrestricted free agent - assuming the NFL and NFLPA do not get a deal done before then.

Unless they extend the CBA, Merriman won't have the time needed to be unrestricted. He will have 5 years, not the 6 needed.

That means, assuming they tender him high, for somewhere around $3M the Chargers can retain the right to match any offer he gets, or receive a 1st and 3rd round pick in return. They are almost certain to do that, even if it is only to trade him.

How about, no.
