A source close to the situation told ESPN's Jeremy Schaap on Friday that X-rays of Favre's right shoulder -- he has pain resulting from a torn biceps tendon -- have been sent to the Vikings and that the X-rays are in the process of being evaluated. If it is determined by Favre's and the Vikings' medical people that he needs anything less than "major" surgery on his shoulder, Favre will un-retire to play for the Vikings, the source said.

Brett Favre's health a factor in whether he might join Minnesota Vikings - ESPN

Of course, this runs counter to the unverified Yahoo! report claiming Favre told the Vikings he was going to stay retired.....

Dueling sources!

All just part of the elaborate charade to drum up interest in Brett. He isn't going to OTA's or much of anyone's camp, so to maintain interest while he stalls there will be conflicting rumors. He and Bus also don't talk specifics during these periods to allow for plausible deniability by either that anything is going on with Brett besides enjoying being retired.

Andrew Brandt had an interesting piece up today at the NFP. He negotiated Brett's 10 year $100M deal with GB in 2001. A deal designed to last 3 years (because he said there was intermittent retirement talk even then...). Said at 8 years thru 2008 it was likely one of the longest running deals in NFL history. Bus and Brett knew it was designed so there would be little or no dead cap beyond 2004-05, in case he really did retire...

Said this is the first time Brett hasn't had that contract to use as leverage in negotiating his remaining in or returning to the game. It was a tough deal to craft 8 years ago, with he and Bus alternating playing good ole boy dolt to stall when they didn't like terms...took the team down to the final hours before FA which made it tougher than it had to be to get their other guys re-signed... He will never change. It's all about Brett in his world.

I fully expect him to play and I fully don't expect this not to be settled until camp starts and some other team starts sniffing his jock. He will want double digits from Minny because that's what Warner got. And while he would ideally love to play for Minny (solely because they play GB twice a year and appear competitive solely because of Peterson and he can own Chilly), he will go to the highest bidder he believes can win more games than GB this season who will let him run his offense. Then when the dust settles the media will blame that team for not doing enough with him. And we'll be right back where we started from this time next year...:D

Does this mean I might have to listen to Brad Childress brag about how he scooped Favre away from the Patriots and every other team in the NFL?

"Brett L. Favre will you please go now!
The time has come.
The time has come.
The time is now.
Just go.
Go.
Go!
I don't care how.
You can tell ESPN
I don’t care when.
Brett L. Favre will you please go now!
You can go on skates.
You can go on skis.
You can go in a hat.
But
Please go.
Please!
I don't care.
You can go
As a Packer
You can go
As a Jet.
If you like you can get all wet.
If you like
You can go
In an old blue shoe.
Just go, go, GO!
Please do, do, do, DO!
Brett L. Favre
I don't care how.
Brett L. Favre
Will you please
GO NOW!
You can go as a Viking
You can go with more scorn
I won’t be torn.
I don’t care.
If you wish.
If you wish
You may go
By lion's tail.
Or put it down in a book
And Tell Bus Cook.
Brett L. Favre
Don't you know
The time has come
To go, go, GO!
Get on your way!
Please Brett L..!
You might like going in a Zumble-Zay.
You can go by balloon . . .
Or broomstick.
Or
You can go by camel
In a bureau drawer.
You can go by bumble-boat
. . . or jet.
I don't care how you go.
Just get!
Brett L. Favre!
I don't care how.
Brett L. Favre
Will you please
GO NOW!
I said
GO
And
GO
I meant . . .
The time had come
So . . .
Brett hemmed and hawed"

Nice adaptation...

I am literally on the floor in the fetal position slowly rocking back and forth whispering "please Childress don't do it, please no more"

Are we allowed to swear on here? Because I don't think I can fully express the pain and horror that overcame me when I saw that Favre may sign with the Vikings.

Please God NO

Brad Childress A POX UPON YOUR HOUSE

I actually hope he does sign with the Vikes. Brett wanting to do it his way will probably negate the value of Peterson. Brett can't throw picks,,,,,er TDs if he is handing off to Peterson. Vikes will probably still win their division, even with Favre, but....I can see it now. Vikes leading by 4 with the ball late in the 4th quarter of a playoff game. All they need to do is hand it off to Peterson to kill the clock. But Favre, being Favre, wants to do it his way. Favre rolls out, throwing off his back leg, puts up a fluttering duck that is picked and taken in for a score. Favre in disbelief claims his elbow, hurting since game 2, was the reason......Childress gets fired.....

Mo pretty much hit the nail on the head with his post.

There will be tons of sources close to Favre saying this and that. He and Cook have a well put together PR apparatus. Anytime Brett falls out of the news for a few days a new one will pop up. Yesterday was only strange in that they leaked twice in 2 days - I would guess it is because Manny Ramirez stole Favre's Sportscenter time on Thursday.

He's not signing anywhere before camp. He's been very open in the past about how mini-camps and off-season workouts aren't for him. Part of his issues with McCarthy and Thompson go back to them making him do more of the preperation expected of other players prior to and during the 2007 season.

He'll be a Viking by September. The Vikings will repeat the Jets 2008 season of unfufilled expectations and Brad Childress will be unemployed by the middle of January.

this is inspired --- do that yourself?

Nope, just stumbled across it. But it was truly amusing, so I had to post it here.

For those of you who were insisting that Favre's arm wasn't injured:

The development further indicates Favre's willingness to consider coming out of retirement to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, particularly if there is a non-surgical solution to his damaged shoulder.

The source said Andrews and Favre experimented with one of several exercises that could accelerate the process of the tendon releasing on its own. During an interview with ESPN in February, Favre mentioned that he had a partially torn biceps tendon in his left shoulder during his Green Bay Packers career and that the pain subsided once it completely tore naturally.

Source: Brett Favre consults Dr. James Andrews about injury - ESPN

The video is more in depth than the story itself.

I know that it was the "in" thing to go bashing the guy, but he was genuinely hurt. That's too bad, because the Jets with a healthy Favre would have been a better team coming out of the East than the Dolphins. Hopefully this thing will be repaired and he can play for another year if that's what he really wants. I'm quite confident that the Vikings would take him over the Rosencopter.
