Debate Friday: Taylor a must-sign?

If reports ("rumors") are true about this handshake agreement and Taylor will sign in 2-3 weeks then will we be superbowl bound?

I think Taylor will help solidify the defense, but then again the thing im worried about is injuries. I hope its not like last year when we lost many starters on defense due to injury. If the Patriots can stay healthy i think we can get far. I dont think we will have a perfect season, but I can see us winning the superbowl this year. your thoughts?

My thought is that if you think a 35 year old player, even as talented as Jason Taylor is ,is going to make the difference between the favorite to win it all to being a near shoo-in then you will be highly dissapointed IMO

Taylor would add depth to the OLB corps but I don't think adding Taylor automatically makes the team super bowl bound - Julius Peppers wont be here but he is the type that would probably put us in extremely top status to get to Miami in February - but like you said injuries are a concern as they are every year . .. if Brady goes down again I don't think we have a 11 win team again,Cassel's performance as a backup QB with no experience taking a team to double digit wins was Rare in this league.

The reason why Taylor got injured was because the Redskins were using him wrong. They lines him up on the wrong side of the defensive line. BB will use him as a 3-4 mostly on 3rd downs and passing downs. He will make more of a difference in the Pass Rushing department than Vrabel will if he was still playing for the Patriots. We need a Pass Rusher and at this point the only Pass Rusher that fits the Patriots mold is Jason Taylor. But, I do agree why would we signed another old free agent. At this point in time since we havent drafted any help at the OLB position i think we need more depth and it wouldnt hurt to have another Veteran that can help lead the defense. The biggest need right now is a Pass Rusher and an ILB for depth.

Pretty much agree with all of this.... Taylor will be a big factor on passing downs, 2nd and 3rd and longs, etc. he's not a run stuffer by any measure anymore... Peppers would vault us to odds on favs, Taylor doesn't.

That said: I would like to have him here, he would be a good player at a position of need for us....

Well, for one, I don't really buy that as an excuse. Lots of players take on the TE and play rougher positions who are Taylor's size and they're fine. His injury was probably part bad luck, part age.

And even assuming it IS true that that's why he was injured. His benefit would be limited if there was only one position we could really use him in.

I think they debated whether he is a must sign, and I think Paul won. Doesn't surprise me.

I'd like Peppers but I just don't see how we can afford him with our current cap space. I think JT is plan B. I'm not even sure what plan C is. Maybe if Suggs wants out in Baltimore, that could do it.

adding taylor would be an immesaurable boost to our Defense. even if he doesnt register 15 sacks, 8 with a lot of pressures would be amazing. i think he is a missing piece, i really hope this deal happens

i dont think this is great news we signed shawn springs to be the #1 CB we may get jason taylor there is talk of signing ty law when the offense cant put up 35 in a game they may just find out they are to old and to slow to stop any one

I'm not sure I get Perillo's take...he's basically saying the sum of the parts equals a whole for them, yet he's counting on the inexperienced few guys to do what a seasoned veteran who is familiar with the system via Saban has proven he can do.

Even at half to 2/3rds his former self it's still a major contribution at a position that is thin and underexperienced that the team can't pass up.
