According to Darrelle Revis:

Former Jets CB Ty Law is talking to the Patriots and Browns about the possibility of playing in 2009, according to close friend Darrelle Revis.

Hard to imagine him having much left at this point. I suppose he could be an option at S, but don't we already have a bunch of bodies there?

Right cos we havent got enough corners and actually let one go:rolleyes:

It's alaways good to talk with Ty....and that's about all the Pats will do...talk...no need for him here..

I weep at the possibilty of starting this discussion for the fourth day in a row, but it would be odd to me to trade Hobbs only to bring in Law. I know Law is worlds ahead of Hobbs in terms of talent and accomplishments OVER HIS CAREER, but at this stage, is he really an upgrade?

Perhaps they figured Law + 2 fifths is better than Hobbs. Or maybe this is just one of those spur of the moment, hey why not moments?

Perhaps Law wants to retire as a patriot, perhaps even before the season starts. Perhaps he wants to be our free safety for a year, playing opposite Meriweather.

Seriously, wouldn't Law add more than McGowan? Obviously Law could compete for reps at nickel or dime back.

I don't think that this will happen, but I would choose Law over McGowan.

There isn't a sentimental bone in Law's body. The only way he comes
back to the Pats is that he can't find a job elsewhere.

I wouldn't mind him as a CB coach.

This news means absolutely nothing, seriously. Please don't blow this out of proportion like the last couple yrs.

Ty Law and his family are from here in Pittsburgh, specifically Aliquippa. Word here is that he has meetings set up with the Jets, and the Steelers. I am sure he is shopping himself to multiple parties regarding one last yr "to feed his family."

And since this info is directly from one of his nephews, he obviously has a pretty big family. I'm not sure if he'd agree to a decent deal anyway. I seriously think him wanting to retire here is very far fetched. He is obviously looking for the most money. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to hear that he has meetings set up with all 32 teams.

EDIT: news about the Jets and Steelers was from several days ago. I didn't wanna post it for fear of the "yeah, sure" comments

Absolutley, 100 % correct.

You couldn't be more right.

Look, I should start off by saying that I agree with everyone here. He is over the hill by football standards, but let's not forget that he was able to cover Randy Moss last year in the game against the Jets. They were matched up one on one for more than just the last play of regulation.

Well, I've always wanted Law back in a Pats uniform, and he's always scorned me...maybe I should just realize that he's using as as a ploy for more money and that he doesn't fit here right now...unless he really wants to retire a Patriot and still can be effective as a role player...

I don't question what he has left in him, the dude is still good.

I just think he'll certainly take the most money that's all, and I just don't see us offering it. Then again, there still has to be more to the Hobbs trade, IMO.

I still think that we'll sign a decent vet somewhere.

If Law is the man, then why in hell did the Pats invest in

Bodden, Butler, Chung, McGowan, and Springs?

I don't think he is the type of guy you bring in as a 4th S. In terms of that role ST are critical, and Ty isn't going to offer what McGowan or someone else does there.

Law was abused in that game pretty much every time he had one-on-one coverage. What the Jets did was put Revis alone and give Law help.

Word up is no interest from BB. He'd already drafted his backup NT.

Signing Law makes about as much sense as re-signing Seau or Colvin or any other athlete past thier prime - This team is much better stacked in the secondary than in recent years.

If Law wants to sit by the telephone and wait for BB to call him if injuries become a problem then he might be worth a dial under desperate circumstances,Otherwise let another team use his older slower ass.

I think they brought in these players to improve a very deficient secondary, but that doesn't mean they will all pan out either.

FWIW--I see no way in hell that Law comes here, but bringing up these 5 guys can't be much of an argument.

Bodden and McGowan could be for competition/depth--and aren't locked in stone

Chung, and Butler are rookies--they have to learn the defense, and earn some playing time on 5-6 DB situations. They aren't day one immediate answers, although I'm sure they'll be good players and have 'some' roles further on in the yr

And Springs--well, I think we're all hoping he's now gonna be a day 1 starter, but he may not be the absolute answer either

Ty Law got his just reward last year playing for the Green Beans instead of the Patriots. Has he even played in a playoff game since leaving New England?

Have we won a Super Bowl since he left?
