Larry Foote said this in an interview on Sirius NFL Radio today ..

While this is true that Detroit and New England both missed the playoffs I think Foote is a bit ridiculous to compare these two teams as similar - A team that went 0-16 to a team that lost their starting all pro QB and just missed the playoffs at 11-5.

Dumb comparison IMO - Just to make a point that he was not crazy to join the lions and back up his new team which will probably not be much better in 09

Now I'm glad this moron got nowhere near our team.

BB probably hung up the phone when his agent called so this is his little atempt at revenge.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

I see no problem with what he said, you guys are so sensitive.

I agree. He wasnt taking a jab at the Pats. He was just trying to explain that 0-16 - 11-5...it makes no difference if you both miss the play-off's, the season is a bust.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

"Yeah, my team blows chunks and someone must have slipped me a mickey for me to sign here.".... Is that really what people thought he was going to say publicly, in any manner?

Best left to say something like "Well detroit went 0-16 and missed the playoffs but 20 other teams did as well" ... That would be more appropriate than to put NE and Detroit in the same sentence.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

Steelers and ex-Steelers are always saying ridiculous things about the Patriots.

While it may be true that they both missed the playoffs, the Patriots were in fact, FAR better than the Detroit Lions and only a game worse than his former team in the regular season.

"New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too"

My only problem with that is this highlighted text - If he does not know the difference, then he's got issues with math - last time I checked 11 is always greater than 0.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

What caused him to mention the Patriots? Did he get an offer from us and turn it down? Or did he get no offer from us, despite his hopes?

Probably because New England was 11-5 and the last time an 11-5 team missed the playofss was Denver back in the 80s - However still no reason to put these two teams in the same sentence.

Its like comparing Dom Perignon to Kool-Aid

:rofl::rofl:..........an accurate comparison!! Very funny.

I would imagine that he was offered an amount he considered insulting, so it's not surprising that he would lob an insult back.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

He was a two-time Super Bowl champion so it's not like he was going to come here for the ring. It's seemed to me that, this decade, the Steelers are always chasing the Patriots, whether it's for respect mid-season or for the legacy (3 rings, 2 almost at the Steelers' expense in the AFCC, vs. 2). They don't like the Patriots and they make it known, whether it's Joey Porter or no-name DBs. Might have been residual bitterness, might have been a jab. Probably not worth a cross-examination since he's now basically anonymous on account of being a Detroit Lion.

Wasn't he always leaning towards becoming a Lion? He's from Detroit and went to Michigan. Might have just been post facto reasoning, like... "She may have been morbidly obese, but I was wasted, and she was the best looking girl in the bar that would look at me."

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

I have no problem with him saying what he did. Most players try to talk up the team they play for especially if they just signed with it. I seriously doubt Foote really feels that there is no difference in quality of teams. If he does, then he isn't the brightest bulb on the tree, but I still don't really care that he said it.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

Eh, I'm not going to say anything unless I hear the tone and context. These things tend to get overblown.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

Sounds like he has a habit of sticking his "foote" in his mouth.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

I didn't hear this but it might be a response to a question of disbelief on why he would go to the Lions.

I have heard Foote talk about TB in glowing terms and he was pretty impressed with meeting Giselle at UM players gig.

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

Yeah I didn't want this guy here in the first place.... just another reason to add to the list of why he isn't here

Re: Larry Foote: "New England was no better than Detroit, they missed the playoffs too

Patriots = best record not making the playoffs
Lions = worst record not making the playoffs

Are people here really going to continue being so petty as to snipe at the guy about this?
