Does Massachusetts have "lynching" as a distinct crime, or is that only something found in the south?

I believe they use the term 'lynching' for gathering a group of people together in a threatening manner. It has nothing to do with the old style 'lynching' meaning to hang someone. Not sure if it's just in the south, although just the term 'lynching' itself--makes it sound that way.

Dang lynchings changed a lot from AP history.

Sounded like it would be dismissed from the onset... another distraction removed..

wow, they throw that term around way to easily down there.

Richard Seymour has a publicist? Who the f does he think he is - T.O.? No wonder the guy's play has deteriorated. He's been reading too many of his own press clippings.

Umm, don't look now but Seymour happens to be a star in this league. He's the best 3-4 DE in the game, a #6 overall pick, a potential HOF candidate, and he makes about 10 million a year. If other players can have a publicist, then I suppose he can too.

And who knows? Maybe he simply hired one to deal with his wife's drama recently.

The comment of his play deteriorating is quite debatable too--he is the strong side of our D line, demands 2 defenders, and is coming off one of his best yrs after a very serious injury. You have no idea his valuable Seymour is until you lose him. Then all the blame can switch to Wilfork deteriorating.

don't bother arguing that one. Some on this board just don't get "it"

As for the story, i had completely forgotten about this. Some of the old laws in this country need a little rewriting

Objection - assumes facts not in evidence. 1. "Other players have publicicts"? The only one I know of is, or was, T.O. 2. The best 3-4 DE in the game - highly questionable. WAS, maybe, but he may not even be the best 3-4 DE on the TEAM anymore.

I think you could only argue that Warren is better than Seymour if he had outperformed him, which any objective analysis of last season would determine he had not. Now the year before, 2007, Warren was better, but Seymour spent almost half of the season rehabbing an injury. You could argue Warren was more effective in 2006 as well. Last year, though, Big Sey had 52 tackles and 8 sacks, his best statistical season since 2003. Warren had 41 tackles and 2 sacks, and generally was not as disruptive as in past seasons. I think we need to realize that we have a perfect 3-4 defensive line for what Belichick wants to get done, and that we should spend very little time worrying about the 3 big guys up front unless they are injured.

I don't understand the Seymour haters. He is one of the cornerstones of a dynasty and a likely Hall of Famer. I like to just watch him at times and revel in his ability to constantly whip 2 guys who are about his size.

Plus, he's got a menacing wife.

I agree....amother distraction gone...

If you think T.O. is THE only other football player in the NFL with a publicist, maybe you should look at the QB for the New England Patriots.

"Tom Brady's publicist claims he is thrilled about the birth of his child...."

These are players that have more responsibilities now than just playing the game. They have appearances, shows, press conferences, autograph signings, etc, etc, etc. It would be pretty naive of you to think that people who sign 60 and 70 million dollar deals do not have publicists. They are superstars, and it's a common thing these days. Singling out Richard Seymour is getting to be THE thing for fans who don't pay much attention these days.

For one thing, he is a potential HOFer. For another, yes, he is the best 3-4 DE in the game right now. I posted these before, but here are some of Seymour's responsibilities for his position, and the team:

1. He is statistically the strong side (R) of our D line. Look at the numbers, it isn't even that close. There goes your argument for Ty Warren.

2. He is the only one of our defensive lineman who can and has, played all 3 positions. How's that for some positional versatility?

3. He regularly demands 2 defenders almost every single play, making it 10 on 9 for our side.

4. Despite his run stuffing numbers, and demanding 2 men, he also just had his 8 sack career yr. Yes, he can rush the QB--with force.

5. How many kicks has he blocked with his 6' 6 1/2" frame? How many times does he get a piece of the ball?

6. He has helped out on offense also, as determined by his injury to his knee blocking for our running game.

7. He has proved w/o a doubt to be the leader on this team, has started since drafted #6 overall, and has been our 'leader' on the D line. He plays every play like it was his last, and has played through many injuries. This includes playing in almost 90% of his games, for you 'injury prone' people.

So the question becomes--what else, exactly, do you want him to do? And why is it perceived that it's going to be easier to replace a beast of a 3-4 DE vs. 'other' 3-4 NT's such as Stroud, Rogers, Hampton, Jenkins, etc? They are arguably both just as important as the other one. Hell, some of us would rather keep Seymour than Wilfork, if it came down to it. And that's not taking anything away from Vince, but it's an arguable discussion at the very least. Seymour has certainly proved himself in this system.

Just don't understand it with Seymour. I can somewhat understand with Maroney, Watson, maybe Hobbs--at least some of those guys have arguments on both sides (to a certain extent)

But Seymour? I never have understood that one at all
