Patriots FW: Andy Hart mini-camp reactions

It already has :

"None of that was on display in the afternoon. He was in the receiver’s shirt on every play, had a terrific interception near the sideline and appeared to be the best athlete on the field. He didn’t get any chances to redeem himself as a punt returner, but his work at corner was eye-popping. So much so that I cast a skeptical eye toward Andy based on his early scouting report."

If we extrapolate this pace of improvement across the off-season, Butler should be ready for Canton by early August. :)

I am glad for Chung, Vollmer and the other guys that had a good day.

I'm hoping Butler can catch on quickly. Hopefully once he gets it he will be an accelerated learner. I want him to succeed in a bad way. I must admit though,I wasn't too happy with the pick. Prove me wrong DB.

Maybe getting over excited ISN'T prudent... but it is encouraging that early reports weren't going to be a trend. To me, Butler is the main guy in the 09 draft. I am hoping he turns out to be a solid contributor sooner rather than later.

This I find to be good:

I have sore spot for the long snapper Ingram(didn't think he should have been drafted) but this is encouraging, I'm hoping he keeps this up and does well in training camp with the competition with Hodel.

Look at all of the draft picks after Uhmbarger like they were Priority Free Agents. Who amongst us thought they would draft 11 players never mind 12? Bussey, Edelman, Pryor, Imgram, Richards were players they could take and not have to compete with other teams to sign as UnDrafted Free Agents.

Draft Guys made the same comment that the Patriots wasted a draft pick on a LS. I totally disagree. I had Ingram pegged early on, but dropped him from my list of 11 because they signed Hodel. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hodel cut when the Pats need the roster spot for the start of training camp.

In fact I'm completely convinced right now that we'll all be saying "oh yeah Mayo had an okay rookie season but nothing like Chung."

Of course, it's ridiculously unwarranted and will slowly go away as he lines up against actual NFL talent.

Unless it doesn't :) that would be so cool.

ARRRGHHHHH it needs to be September NOW!

The sad thing is, I'm totally with you. All I can think about lately is how Chung is going to put teeth back into our defense and revitalize the middle. DROY for sure, right? I'm getting so caught up in this whole process, it's just laughable.

Butler wasn't my pick either. I personally would have preferred trading up to get Malcolm Jenkins at 14, followed by Chung (since Delmas was gone at 33) and then a certain TE/DE/OLB at 41. But now I hope Butler will end up being all world for us, and want him to catch on as soon as possible. Her certainly has the physical tools to succeed.

Going by the photos on Patriots.com, Vollmer is huge, the other linemen, both OL and DL, are close, but Ornberger is dwarfed.

Plus Ornberger has a Homer Simpson build to him, yikes,,

guess we will see in traing camp.

I see your point, the phrase "luxury picks" at work there. I was and probably still am not sure I'd take someone at a position that is already filled with a veteran when they could have taken someone at a more needed spot but his play is justifying the choice.

NFL notebook: Minnesota may look at Favre - The Connecticut Post Online
PATRIOTS -- If Jermail Porter is going to play football for New England, he has to learn how to put on the shoulder pads. "I needed a little bit of help," Porter said. Porter, a 6-5, 310-pound undrafted free agent from Kent State, didn't play football at the youth, high school or college level. So here he is, competing for a spot on the Patriots' offensive line, the rawest of raw talents. "I'm learning. It's a different world for me," said Porter after the first workout of a weekend minicamp for the Pats' draftees and free agents. Porter, 22, was a wrestler in college, compiling a 119-43 record in four years at Kent State, placing sixth in this year's NCAA championship. As a football player, he is the very definition of a project. But with his size, Porter didn't look out of place during drills for the offensive lineman Friday. "I didn't play high school or college, obviously," said Porter. "I didn't even play peewee because I was overweight. I had no experience at all. It's all new to me."

What a turnaround, huh. Based on the morning report, we were all thinking he might be in the doghouse!

Patrick Chung is my new favorite defensive player. I've been searching for one for a while now. He is going to be awesome for us, I just feel it in my bones.
