Great artical Chris! I'm even more excited about this young man, he sounds like a Troy Brown act II!!

Great read. Thanks for sharing!

Combine all of the tangibles from the article with the opportunity to learn from guys like Bruschi, Mayo, and BB and this kid could very well be the steal of the draft.

Nice write up on him, Chris. Let us know what your impressions are after talking to him.

“I think he’s a natural ‘mike’ linebacker. I really do,” said Burnham,

which one is the mike linebacker? the strong or weak?

cuz mayo seems to be teh weak linebacker...so i assume mike means strong?

Here you go

The weak side inside linebacker is typically called the "Will," while the strong side or middle inside linebacker is called the "Mike".

Great work Chris.

I am rooting for this kid to be with the team for 10+ years. IMO Tedy will retiring after this year. TMac seems like a perfect replacement from a heart & character POV as well as from a FB POV.

I always thought the "Mike" referred more to a role in a defensive play, rather than a position. That's why Brady always calls out the Mike before a play starts, so the line knows who's fulfilling that role?

Thanks for the kind words. Didn't get a chance to talk with him today, but I will make sure I catch up with him sometime this weekend. Burnham couldn't stop talking about him -- said he's a great guy who will always make you proud.

BTW, have training camp updates today over on the blog at

It Is What It Is

I'll have Q&A's up this afternoon with Darius Butler, Ron Brace and Jake Ingram.

Tell them to hit the books and stop slacking off with interviews and other nonsense..... :p

And on a comparatively serious note, enjoy your weekend, sir, and thank you for the articles and updates.

No worries -- thanks all. I've posted some quotes of note from Brace, Butler and Ingram on the blog. Butler was really interesting -- a good read.

It Is What It Is

It's fun talking to these guys at this stage of their career -- like Belichick says, they don't even know what they don't know. Ingram said it himself: "I thought I knew things in college, but I come out here and I don’t have the slightest clue."
