Since half the threads on this board - like the Alex Smith trade - get converted into Peppers threads, I just wanted to point out (again, for the hundredth time) what a bunch of nonsense Vic Carucci writes, what a joker this guy is, and why it's complete lunacy to believe anything he says. Here is a quote from that same exact article that claims Patriots are trading pick #34 for Peppers:

"Also, according to NFL sources, there is a third phase to the Patriots' offseason strategy. They would like to further beef up their linebacking corps by adding an inside linebacker in the draft. They are known to believe that USC's Rey Maualuga would be a great fit for their scheme, especially when paired with Jerod Mayo, their 2008 first-round pick who was the NFL's top defensive rookie. However, some early projections suggest it might be a long shot for Maualuga to be available for the Patriots with the 23rd overall pick."
Patriots appear primed to make a deal with Panthers for Peppers

Thanks for the inside info, Vic! Those are some great "NFL Sources" you've got!

Good call! Carucci is the only reporter in history that's had a source that didn't pan out. Way to catch him on that.

Remember last year how about 5 days before the draft multiple sources (including one on this board) suddenly reported the Pats' supposed obsession with Ellis -- and if they couldn't move up for him, they'd take Rivers? Well some of those same sources had the Pats salivating over Maualuga this year. I don't think that's just bad guessing, it sounds like somebody credible actively spreading disinformation about the Pats' interest in USC defenders.

OK, let me just clarify the point of posting this.

There is no credibility to Carucci's article, which was mostly about the Patriots trading for Peppers!

The Maualuga quote is just to underline the fact that there is no credibility to it.

For some reason, people just refuse to believe this.

Yeah, we had every opportunity to get him and apparently didn't want him. I was upset, but oh well. I'm happy with the rooks we got.

Carucci just made up the Maualuga thing, because he thought it made him look like he had inside sources, but couldn't get caught as a fraud. He THOUGHT he couldn't get caught, because Ray M. was supposed to be long gone before the Pats picked. When he slipped, slipped, and slipped some more and the Patriots never took him, Carucci looks like a fool.

The reason it bothers me, is because "inside info" is rare these days, and it would be nice to rely on some of it. With Carucci, it's all complete BS.

Ummmm.... What are your sources to verify that Carucci made it up, and how can we be sure that they are reliable?

Or are you just making up the notion that you know Carucci made it up?

I don't think Carucci or his sources are the problem here. I think the problem is some people have a hard time understanding that not everything you read on the internet (even from seemingly credible sources) should be taken as gospel. Consequentially, when that information DOESN'T pan out, it is not always (and like not often) a malicious event.

Be more cynical about unofficial reports, and you'll find the world doesn't shock you or let you down nearly as often.

Nicely said. Good job.

That was over a month ago, things change teams do more homework. Maybe it is just me but I get sick of everyone bashing writers that either do not write something positive or god forbid bash the pats. So what his sources are not true now, but 36 days ago they could have been? People on here need to lighten up! For example Borges writes a article complimenting the Pats and people on here still bashed him and said it was negative.

I really wish some reporter or columnists would have the balls to make a Prediction Board: two columns, one with their prediction/claim, the other with the final result.

Because otherwise, all their blather is just ephemera that never comes back to haunt them.

Heck, someone should create a website that keeps track of this for all the major NFL reporters and columnists.

Make it happen and put the link in your sig.
