Ah crap, after I just mentioned he was still there with the team from last year.

Thought he at least had a shot at providing some competition in camp, guess not.

yeah,

i was hoping to see something from him too. He did well at Nebraska, but got placed on IR with NE last year. Tough break for him, I suspect.

Is he practice Squad material if he doesn't get picked up by another team or just be done with him?

considering they cut him this early, and they can keep 80, I kind of doubt they have much interest in keeping him.
apparently, they want that roster spot for some udfa.

maybe he'll drift on over to kc.

or TB... to play with his brotha.

No big shock releasing Ruud.... Maybe Tampa Bay will wanna give him a look...

It seems as if any drafted rookie that end up on IR at the start of the season likely to get cut the following season. This can't be good sign for Brandon Tate!

Apples and Oranges

Ruud healthy was a late rounder

Tate, injured, failed drug test, was a late rounder. before injury, he was expected to be a 1st or 2nd rounder

The thing with Tate, if he comes back from his injury, he could be a long term pass catcher with Welker like change of direction skills, and great hands. I'm going to follow this guys progress, could be very interesting !

Do you think the Patriots should sign him?

Oh wait, nevermind we only ask that question for releases of the other 31 teams....:)

Scott Pioli will scoop him up.

Let's hope that you are right. In addition to this IR thing, the last two WR's Patriots drafted in the second round didn't workout too well.

A bit surprised...just a numbers game OR something else that happened...A bit different than Lua...AND others..Lua did play some in camp before his injury and he was released 2 months earlier than Ruud..(way before free agency) Another rookie on IR was Ryan Claridge who was a bit similar to Ruud. He was on IR early in camp and was released in July of the next year. Wish Bo well. BTW the Patriots are not even close to the 80 man limit...the draft picks do not count UNTIL they are signed....so they may bae about a dozen more bodies until then.

Except Tate was drafted in the third round... :p

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Seems like every offseason we're talking about "Don't forget about Player X who was a rookie last year we IR'd; he'll make good depth." And of course, Player X never really amounts to anything.

The only rookie I can recall who was IR'd and ever ended up doing anything is Ben Watson, and obviously he was a first rounder.

One turned into an OK returner for them even if he wasn't used in the receiver role all that much...and they also selected a decent receiver the year before him that they traded for a first round pick that they used to draft some guy named Meriweather...I'd call that a successful pick.

Weren't we already up against the 80 limit once you counted our rookies? Any further signings would require releases, or would prevent us from signing rookies.
