Why do people get upset about these threads? If you are not interested, then don't read them.
For my part, I didn't know that Edge had just been released. I know that the Pats aren't likely interested, but at least I learned the news about his release.
Sure beats threads which announce it is such-and-such's birthday! Who gives a crap?
FWIW--I appreciated God In a Grey Hoodie's b-day threads. It showed that someone took the time to remember, keep up with work to add them, etc. It was important to remind us to include everyone on the team, rather than just focusing on the star players only. It was a shame that people actually were so ignorant, they actually started posting the specified players weakness, faults, etc. I was actually even forced to stick up for freaking Deltha O'Neal at one point.
I appreciate being able to keep current on all player developments, new Pats and general football info--while learning a thing or two from people who know more than I do, and who can teach something, etc. But at the same time, I don't want it to be super serious, people arguing and belittling each other over something that's supposed to be fun, relaxing, and somewhat entertaining still. The birthday threads were relevant. They showed current age specs, reminded us about other, less relevant players, and kept us reminded without having to look at depth charts once a month.
Most of all it was meant to provide player appreciation, until people needed one more extra thread to vent, argue, and generally pick at each other.
