I know a lot of the pundits keep saying things like, "if Haynesworth got xxx, what is Peppers worth?" I personally don't think Peppers has put himself in position to ask for that kind of money. I believe he may have lost that leverage when he made it crystal clear he wants to play OLB in a 3-4. The bar for this position is set much lower. James Harrison, the current Def Player of the Year, just signed a new deal for 6 yrs, $51 mil with $20 mil guaranteed. If he is a proven 3-4 OLB and D-POY, I don't believe Peppers has the leverage to ask for more or even as much. I think that Harrison deal could really help the Pats pursue Peppers.

As for Wilfork, I feel a deal will definitely get done. Again, I don't think Wilfork's people are in the position to ask for Haynesworth money when one is a 4-3 tackle and one is a 3-4 noseguard. The baseline for these negotiations will probably center around Casey Hampton and Jamaal Williams who were not paid Haynesworth money.

Bottom line, I think the Pats can definitely pursue Peppers while resigning Wilfork. Where that will leave Big Sey, I have no idea.

Until Peppers signs the franchise tender, any talk of trading for him is dead. Once it happens, I'm pretty sure BB will be on the phone to ask what it will take.

I understand that. My point was I don't believe the media setting the bar at Haynesworth $$ is accurate.

Is it possible Peppers digs his heels in hard enough to get them to remove the tag?

Peppers is already guaranteed $17M this year if he signs the tag. That means guaranteed money is going to have to start a lot higher thna $17M. Not the essentially guaranteed 48M that haynesworth got, but 35-40 isn't high.

Do we know for sure money is a big issue for Peppers? It's one thing saying that he's going to get $17 million this season but another if it means something to Peppers.

The only thing I know about Peppers is he wants out of Carolina, he wants to play for a team that has the potential to get to a superbowl this year but I've not heard much about how much money he wants, all I've heard is he wants to play on a superbowl contender and in a 3-4 defense as an OLB.

Until he signs that tender, who knows what is going to happen.

So a thread saying what dozens have already said is worth starting another Pepper thread?

Usually, folks add their personal opinion to a thread. Certainly there are enough Pepper threads to have signed on.

A new thread on Peppers will be worth starting when there are new facts or news. There aren't any.

He's said he wants to be a 3-4 OLB because it will "bring his game to a more elite level" or something along those lines. That screams to me as a coded answer for MORE SACKS = MORE $$ to me.

Some members need to discuss Peppers on their own terms.

Or perhaps to show how bright they are ... :ugh:

Or better yet ... just to get attention because maybe just maybe Belichick looks for input from the forum...

I like discussing peppers because they are such a versatile food.

Does anybody actually think he sits out a year?

He needs to sign the damn thing so everybody can start to move on

Way I see it if its about the money for him he should sign it, he's gonna then get paid

If its not about the money sign it then move to any number of the teams who'd look to pick him up cause hell, its not like he's still not gonna get paid!
