Hobbs: “We’re All Dollar Signs”

He's right. It's the price of having a salary cap.

Once again, he's doing a decent job of walking the line between emoting in public -- which is one things fans ask of players -- and not being a jerk -- which is another thing they ask.

Some guy said Ellis Hobbs has been toasted more than a English Muffin.lol. and he aint lying....that's the funny part

if there wasnt a salary cap i bet he woulda stayed, but that 2.3 million may come in handy later on. and he may have never been that spectacular game changing CB but he did hold his own pretty well.

Hobbs isnt saying anything bad, and i think he's handled the situation well, unlike a certain ex-corner that Hobbs will be reunited with. :D

His picks and returns will be missed, he did have some difficulty agaisnt extra tall receivers though, overall Id give him a 89-90 as a CB.

Sad to see him go, he would have made an excellent #2 CB.

English Muffins are only toated once, so that's not saying much.

:nono: shhhh, PJ, we're not allowed to say anything nice about Hobbs on here. The last person who did, was takin away in the middle of the night. When he awoke, he was a member of a Detroit Lions forum. :D

I don't think Hobbs was a great CB, but I don't think he was awful and didn't deserve all of the derision.

Oh well, just that much more for Seymour, Maroney and Sanders this year.

Hobbs aka Bethal Johnson.. Will be cut in camp, and then become a jag cb..

That's if Maroney and Sanders even make the team ;)

Here's a quote that I think shows WHY he was traded more than anything and why he thinks they are all dollar signs: "It's definitely frustrating when you see guys making certain amounts of money that you think you should get just as well and you deserve,"

He wanted more money, getting rid of him and dumping him on another team puts the money against their cap while also freeing up money on their own cap and avoids the headache he would have caused during the offseason negotiations.

I agree, that makes alot of sense to me.

Maroney? Oh yeah, I remember that guy. Lot's of hair, had the really cool college highlight reel. Good speed in the flat when in space.....btw, when was the last time he was in space?

This is it Maroney. This is the year. It's now or never baby.

If healthy, I think he'll have a nice year.

Big IF.

His salary is half the money they need to pay Jason Taylor...

Patriots will find out if players return for less - BostonHerald.com

Of particular note was his contention players are no longer going to take hometown discounts to play in New England. They won’t agree to shorter money for the greater good of the team and the hope of winning a championship.

“I think with that situation there are a lot of guys that are coming up that are going to need to be paid,” Hobbs said. “I think it has kind of moved from that echelon where there is a lot of guys out there who are not going to take the (bottom) dollar for the win. Guys really want to get what they deserve and each one of those guys that are coming up in the next year or so deserve every dollar they are going to get.”

IMO, with these statements, he would not be a good influence on the young players and rookies.

Yup.... I think you nailed it pretty well there.

It almost sounds like he's trying to sabotage the team by putting ideas in the heads of the free agents (i.e. Wilfork, Seymour), or even any free agents that may be interested in the future. He almost comes off as being a little bitter, like a child who got his feelings hurt. Does anyone else get that feeling?
