I think the Safety position is pretty much stacked and I say its doubtful Harrison is back unless injuries at Safety during the season force the team to resign him late in the season like they did with Seau and Colvin before.

Is the drafting of Chung the definate signal that Rodney is gone?

Thread title ("signing") is misleading

Yep that's what it is. The only way to get "younger and faster" is to get younger and faster. I'm sad to see Vrabel and Rodney leaving - and probably Bruschi next year - but time marches on. We're getting younger and faster. Finally.

Probably. I never felt Rodney would be back with this draft choice or not.

Yeah, that was my initial thought when the pick happened. Just doesn't look like there's room for Rodney on the roster anymore. On one hand, it's sad to see him go, but on the other I'm excited that the Pats are getting younger and faster.

It is a sign that the next stage in his career is about to start. He went to Ref's school, and has always said that's what is next. But I'd love to have him in the locker room as a DB coach or Defensive Coach Assistant of some kind.

They're not even the same player

I think the writing has been on the wall for a long time that Rodney wasn't coming back. With all due respect to Rodney Harrison, who has been one of the all time greats for us, age has caught up to Rodney. He's too slow and too injury prone. We need to move on. Meriweather/Chung/Sanders will hopefully be the nucleus of our safety group for the next 5+ years. I'm sad to say goodbye to Harrison, Vrabel and eventually Bruschi, but we aren't going to win any more championships with them.

I can't room on the roster for Rodney. I'd love to have him as a coach, though. Phenomenal player for us.

Couldn't Rodney latch on as a DB coach or is he going straight into the refing business?

That's a solid group and hopefully Butler/Wheatley/Wilhite can be the same as CB although I'm not sure that Wilhite will be more than a #4/#5 CB. Hopefully Butler looks good and Wheatley can stay healthy.

I think we may see Rodney, Asante and Hobbs all playing in the Eagles secondary in the SB in February.

They know Brady well, Brady knows them well. Should be interesting!!!!!

He said that he intends to play, I think (does anyone know for sure?)

I'm sure someone will sign him.

If he's got anything left, I hope he either starts the season with the team or is available as a mid-season replacement. The 3 youngsters form an undersized group and Rodney would help counter that weakness.

I had the impression that Rodney was going into the media (then Ref's school).

Love to see him back, even just for training camp, just to mentor Chung and to see him deliver a few more hits.

Look for Rodney to be a broadcaster/sports announcer and analyst in the very near future - It appeared to me as if he was auditioning for a career when he was on there in the Super Bowl.

Actually if CBS gives him a call to work for them,I could see him on TV as soon as september.
