GRADE: B+
You have to give the Patriots credit for acquiring even more picks for next year's draft. Safety Patrick Chung, defensive tackle Ron Brace and cornerback Darius Butler were all good selections in the second round, although offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer was a reach. Wide receiver Brandon Tate was a decent third-round pick and I really like the sixth-round selection of Jacob Ingram, the best long snapper in the draft.

Not bad....what did you do Kipper?
Flip a coin for that one?
Pull that out of your bottom?

the final grade is inaccurate, biased and weak.

Compared to the rest of the league and what's best for our team-the final grade is an : A+
m'kay?

We should have 2 more rings than we do now.
This year will be the year of revenge

Let the masses hate us-I think its funny.

I don't get the thing about "reaching" for a player. If a team likes that player enough to draft him at where he was drafted then so be it. Ppl tend to get so wrapped up in draft ranking, player rankings and whatnot that they dont understand different team puts different value for different players. Plain n Simple. U like him there, Pick him there...Bottom Line.

The Kipers of the world premise their entire existence that there is some absolute ranking of players out there. Obviously there is not - different teams like different players - but Kiper is there for pure entertainment value, and I think, for the most part, he delivers...Todd McGay on the other hand...not so much.

Calm down Gollum, nobody was talking about rings.

Not a fan of Kyper, reminds me of **** Clarke otoh he forgot about McKenzie who could be a real sleeper.. with consistent coaching this guy could meet a need along with Mayo.

My grade was about an A-.. but like so much of this nothing is really known, Sanchez could pull a Len Bias or blow out his knee in training camp.. the whole affair is about guesses.

Kiper reminds me of Leslie Nelson in Dracula: Dead and Loving It

Eh, grading a draft is like grading a college thesis after only reading the first page. Kiper has no real savvy for understanding that teams have different draft priorities, but I'll never really fault him. He's a college football analyst, and tends to know a whole lot about the players themselves. I'll give him credit for the work he puts in, but undertand that any grade he comes out with is for entertainment purposes only.

Someone said it best, I think in the Kiper thread, that all he does is talk about numbers which makes his analysis quite boring. This grade is solely based on his board and where a player was taken in the draft. NFL Network was much better to watch this year.

I watched ESPN most of the weekend and I can't remember Kiper going off on a numbers tangent once. He's paid to have an opinion based on his research. He is not a reporter that compiles others' opinions. I give him alot of credit for his opinion/clash with McShay months ago that made the YouTube rounds regarding Stafford and Detroit. He schooled the newbie on the reality of what and why Detroit would go QB despite a lesser rating.

Grading a draft is like giving your opinion on the quality of food at a restaurant just by looking at the menu. Wait until it's all cooked up and served.

Florio has the idea right. Grading a draft before three years have elapsed is just an excercise in wanting to hear your own hot air. Nobody knows yet. Every team gets an incomplete. You can maybe assess how teams did with finding guys whose skills ought to fit up with team needs and making picks that were in line with the talent assessment of other teams with similar schemes, but beyond that the whole draft analysis gig is all hot air.

I don't blame Kiper for doing it- ESPN wants him to do it, readers lap it up, and it generates hits. I actualy like Mel-- He's a bright enough guy to know this too. He even has tamed his comments over the years- he used to say that a certain pick was clueless or a bonehead selection, now he more often than not says "we will see, maybe they have different selection criteria and that player fits their needs in a way that adds value to their system more than it would to others"

Kiper does a lot of research, but I give him an F for his premature grading.

Mel Kiper, How is a pick a reach if you have him late in the 2nd or early in the 3rd and he is picked early in the 2nd? A player shouldn't be listed as a reach unless the pick is a full 2 rounds difference. Obviously, Mel is just trying to justify his existence.....

I have not heard McShay have one reasonable draft idea. Another reason I ignored espn this year.

So Sebastian Janikowski WASN'T a reach.... ???

Reaches exist....

ROFL he gave em a B+ because he liked our longsnapper selection? Nice. Kiper is such a riot.

For what's it worth Kiper had 7 picks right in the first round. I believe most of us here could have picked 8 players that would go in the 1st round. He's all mouth.

On a side note I was listening to the radio at lunch today, Brentson Buckner (Was captain of the 2003 Panthers SB team ) has a sports talk show and he loves our draft. He really thinks Ron Brace will be a solid player.

I give the Pats a B+ grade......

I give Kiper's hair an F!

Palm Beach Fan had I great line here: Grading a draft is like giving your opinion on the quality of food at a restaurant just by looking at the menu. Wait until it's all cooked up and served.
