Just heard that....2 5th rounds 137...141....WOW!!!

Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

For 2 5th Rounders

Ellis Hobbs Gone!

From Twitter

The Patriots have acquired two fifth round picks (137 and 141) from the Eagles in exchange for veteran CB Ellis Hobbs.

Wow, didn't see that coming.

Two fifths? Kinda low price if you ask me, but all those who hate him will be pleased.

P.S. when you type "Twitter" double check to make sure you don't forget the w as I almost just did. ;)

Not sure if it's enough but I'm glad he's out of here.

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

WOW!!!! I didn't think we'd get rid of him this soon. But the proof is in the pudding. Now we know what BB thinks of Hobbs. He's worth a pair of 5th rounders.

I guess Philly is getting ready to dump Brown.

More accurately: Hobbs, an impending free agent, is worth two fifths.

Re: Ellis Hobbs Gone!

I don't think anyone saw it coming, but it's still not a surprise (oxymoron?). With the additions in FA and the draft we witnessed yesterday, coupled with the fact that Hobbs has never been a big-play guy, well . . . the writing was on the wall.

LOL. More importantly, Hobbs, who had become expendable was worth a couple of late round picks. Maybe we package those 5ths for a 4th round player that the Pats are targeting?

Re: Ellis Hobbs Gone!

He only had a year left on his contract anyways, right? I think that explains some of the low return.

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

He was serviceable. But I can't get his not turning his head-face guarding 06 penalty or falling down in 07 out of my mind. Toodaloo and thanks for everything else Hobbs.

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

And, FWIW, the Pats free up an additional $2.2M in cap space.

except that faceguarding isn't actually a penalty.

Which, BTW, the NFL ultimately sent an apology letter for.

And, given how badly the refs were in the Colts' pockets, I'm sure they would have found a way to call PI there even if he'd turned his head.

Re: Ellis Hobbs Gone!

WOW!

A starting CB.
One of the best return men in the NFL.
On the cheap last year of his rookie contract, clearing very little money.
For a couple fifth round picks - picks the Patriots clearly have no interest in.
That is SHOCKINGLY low return - essentially a cut, sending him out of the division.

WOW!

Not that it changed anything for us, but the NFL sent him a written apology acknowledging that it was not a penalty and the refs botched the call.

Somewhere Micheal Holley is shedding a tear

Re: Ellis Hobbs to Philadelphia

Kind of suprised by this. Two 5ths isn't alot for a solid starter IMO, our depth at DB is good but once that injury bug hits it's not a bad thing to have someone like Hobbs.

On the other hand, I was expecting Hobbs to be a goner next year and If I'm reading Miguel's page right this does save us about $2.25M in cap so I guess that is the main focus here.

Re: Hobbs traded to Phila....

He probably wanted lots of money after this year. Inflated ego of his worth as a starting cornerback in the NFL. This shows what the rest of the league thinks he's worth. Training camp fodder and a pack of used Double Bubble. Don't let the door hit you in your inflated ego on your way to Philly hot shot.

Hobbs will be memorably burnt somewhere else now. :D Seriously though, this saves the Pats cap space so they can go get JT. ;) BB is all about the value and he essentially managed to get a 4th and 6th for Hobbs.
