NFL to monitor team announcements

After discovering the announcement of a pick 20 seconds prior to the televised broadcast, Roger Goodell has decided to take away the Patriots 2010 first round pick.

Stay tuned for 24/7 Twittergate coverage on ESPN.

Sounds more political than anything else ... Did Specter think of this idea?

Later they will announce the location of the draft will be moved to Beijing, China. Geez, the NFL is having serious issues. They want to squeeze out every dollar they can and micro-manage teams and players. I beginning to think that the Players Union needs to bulk up to stand up against some of this BS, allowing a division between Owners, Players and the League to reach compromises.

they want to control everything...frankly, I did notice a difference this year in the way it was done..and I really do not like it..Before, the pick was made and went directly to Goodell or the speaker..and the pick was known and the other team was on the clock..now, it oes to another who I guess twitters it and maybe a few minutes later it is announced..THAT was why when picks were made the next team already had 2-3 minutes off the clock or more..DO NOT like the way this was done..no need for ESPN or NFLN...really...yo get the picks..

Actually once the pick is made, it is transmitted electronically to the teams and the clock starts again. Otherwise a team could complain that they were on the clock and didn't know who had been picked ahead of them. My avatar is from the '06 draft from the backmost row. Having attended a few drafts on Sunday when they are lucky to get 200 people, you get up close and see what really happens. It appears that they also transmit the picks to ESPN/NFLN so they have a 15 second or so 'heads up' on who the pick was in advance. Once the pick is announced they would show highlights of that player and on more than a few occassions they showed the highlights before the name was announced.

Thanks...good insight...but maybe you can say more about why it seems the announcements are later...or SEEM later this year?? Am I wrong in that picks are brought up to the announcer and this year...go to others and then to the announcer?? Seems a bit odd that what they send teams should not go directly to the podium...as well...but it just feels a bit different...and the delay from pick being made to announcement does seem like a LOT different this year..Just the mechnics seem to be...Thanks though good insight.

Oh those cheating Patriots. How dare they let their fans know who they're picking 15 seconds before Roger.

Rodger's slow, dramatic, walk across the stage and hesitation after saying " with the ##pick...." all RUINED!!!!! What's a Lawyer to do???? Poor Rodger!!!

Umm... how about ESPN showing countless players on cell phones sometimes 10 minutes before the pick is made??? LOL this is foolish as usual.

I think ESPN went to commercials when some of the picks came in too.

I dont think day 2 will matter much, Twitter though may be better than watching on tv..

Bizarre.

I actually thought it added to the drama when we saw players and family reacting, and we weren't quite sure who was picking them. Take Beanie Wells--he was on the phone celebrating a full 2 picks before he was chosen. Twitter just added to all the drama.

I think some of you are over reacting a bit.

League is looking into possibly making a rule for a future year.

Kinda makes sense.

If all or most the teams announced their picks via web before they are announced at the podium it could greatly devalue the TV product. Also particularly with teams such as Jets and Giants if folks in the room knew the pick 2 or 3 mins before Godell annouces it at the podum it would greatly change the dynamics of live event.
