Michael Johnson has to be the focus now, he's worth a deal up to lock it in. AT this point, MJ is clearly worth the gamble, the risk and money is minimal relative to the upside which could be off the charts, let's deal up for this potential pass-rushing game changer who simply needs a fire lit under his arse, something that I think BB and this coaching staff can do.

True that! The Pats really need to look at either getting Johnson or Sidbury Jr. in the 3rd round and I'm stoked!

You have to wonder though why he dropped so far. I was totally confused when Maualaga dropped so far and then Mayock tells us that he has had problems off the field in his early days in college and that they resurfaced recently. Maybe there is something we don't know about concerning Johnson also.

Deal what?

All they can deal from here on in is 3rd rounders.

Two thirds for Michael Johnson?

That may be worth it if they get something in return.

I agree, or trade and get a fairly young vet.

If the Pats were in love with Michael Johnson, I don't think they take Vollmer over him. Michael Johnson reminds me a lot physically of Crable. However MJ doesn't show consistency or dominance in college despite his tools. He's boom or bust. Might be worth a gamble in the 3rd but not really a guy you trade up for.

Here are the Pats 3rd round picks on Day 2. Don't expect them to use all of em on players.

3rd round
#73 (9th)
#83 (19th)
#89 (25th)
#97 (33rd COMP/UNTRADEABLE)

If they could get a future 2nd out of this group of picks, that would be brilliant.

PS For the first time in a long time, the Pats don't have any 4th round picks. So don't be surprised if they trade back into the early 4th with one of their 3rds.

Personally Im not concerned at all by off the field issues. This organization has already proved that they can handle their questionable character guys who are no longer questionable (a la Moss and Merriweather).

Although trading up to get Johnson looks really attractive Im not so sure that I really want it to happen. Im more than happy with all our picks so far, and Im sure I will be just as happy with the next one whether its Johnson or not. In Belichick I trust.

i dont want that lazy Michael Johnson on our team. He is just hot air.

So true.. That is the biggest knock on him.. LAZY. Both on the field and off it.

Ummm.... he is one dimensional. The guy doesn't have much of a motor, too tall off the line and hasn't prove he is capable of holding his own against the run. Maualuga dropped because he tends to over pursue, hits hard rather employing proper tackling techniques and as PFW mentioned, had to be babysat by more mature teammates so as to keep him out of trouble. Good that he went to the Bengals since Keith Rivers was one of his former babysitters!

I think that sums it up nicely. Vollmer is a Patriots fit that can grow into the system, Johnson is really just a athletic player that is not going to give you more then you've already seen. Some team who needs a pass rushing specialist will take him.

I expect a lot of people loking to trade up early and pick Michael Johnson. Also a lot of the mid level tier RB's should start coming off the boards, Shonne Green Ringer perhaps etc
