Here is a trade idea..

To the Panthers:
Jarvis Green
Pierre Woods
3rd round pick

To the Pats:
Julius Peppers with a new contract.

Trading Green frees up the DE position for Wright to move there and be the primary back-up. Woods goes to a team that he can get playing time as a DE where he'll accel.

Peppers comes to the Pats and is a happy camper.

All good except for one thing: $$$. Peppers likely want more than we can pay him.

I do like the idea on paper.

Why are we talking about this? Did Peppers sign his tender?

I do not think the Patriots will get Taylor or Peppers. I think they like Crable and the lb they have.

I'm seeing this as the true scenario as more time goes by. They obviously know something that the rest of us do not; otherwise, they wouldn't have passed on Matthews, Barwin, and a host of other players that they clearly had an opportunity to get. They just know something we don't.

...or Hobbs instead of Woods

When do the Peppers threads stop?!?!?!? This isn't fantasy football is it? Sorry... don't mean to vent, but I can't take it anymore!

At 29, He's not going to get the money he thinks he will. Though I could see the Patriots giving him a deal similar to Thomas. And, if you looked at what was offered, yes, the Patriots could pay him. Because Green and Woods account for just over 6 million against the cap. The Pats could easily turn that into a contract for Peppers....

Peppers could have signed his tender today and given it to Goodell. We never know. Hell, its a good idea even for a 3rd rounder for next season.

Yes, they would have. Matthews isn't a 3-4 OLB no matter how people want to imagine him there. As for this "host of others" I've got to disagree. I didn't think there was a host of players who could play in the 3-4 at OLB prior to the draft and nothing changed in the time leading up to the draft. The only one that the Pats could have chosen and didn't was Barwin. And I think it was more an issue of value than of talent. Because Barwin in a 3-4, would take 2-3 years to develop. Whereas, in the 4-3 like the Texans run now, he can contribute immediately.

And yes, they do know plenty of things we don't. Its also why I said in another thread that the hole at OLB is what the Fans perceive and that the Pats coaching staff may not perceive it.

Hope I'm not being rude by suggesting this, but I think someone would have reported this. There were more reporters, team officials, and league officials than an owners meeting. On top of that, cameras are running the whole time and every analyst is trying to break a story.

we have all summer to discuss the possibility of a trade for next year's picks.

What has Pierre Woods shown ANYONE that makes him part of a package like this??

Woods is a JAG at this point and there is no reason to think he is better than that at this time,Carolina is not stupid and Fox is ...well a 'foxy' coach when it comes to dealing players.

Now include Hobbs instead of Woods (as another said) or give Carolina a #2 next year on top of your original idea and its a deal

Topics that never die....

1. Peppers to the Pats

2. Spygate

3. Brady/Gisele

4. Maroney = Bust

5. Connor Barwin 4 Life!

Just wait until the Colts release Adam Seward in a few weeks - Then you can add #6 to that list

Not necessarily since all contracts have to be approved by the commish. And since he was hobnobbing and tweeting until late, he might not have checked his in box at his office.. Some things aren't done electronically.

Honestly Id love to see the Pats get Peppers but I think there gonna go with AD one side and Crable and Woods on the other, a 3 man rotation. I think TBC is the odd man out.

BTW- Other things to think about. With the addition of Brace, Mike Wright is free to move to DE on a full time basis. But that position is now stacked with Seymour, Warren, Green and LeKevan Smith there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see one of Green or Smith traded for a pick next year or in conjuction with the Patriots adding a veteran player. Especially with more teams needing 3-4 defensive help.

Even if you are correct that all contracts have to go through the commish which I do not think that you are, he had to already approve the tender when the Panthers made it.

Do not see Peppers in our uniform... no real reason, except just one of those gut things...
