Here's an interesting prospect. How about Jairus Byrd from Oregon? His teammate Patrick Chung is getting more pub because of the senior bowl, but Byrd might make for an interesting second day pick and offers a lot of versatility. "Quarterback was his primary spot, but this amazing athlete also played Running Back, Wide Receiver, Defensive Back, Punter, and Kicker.

Couple of things. First, that article was posted last August.

Second, How can someone who is rated as a 2nd round pick by NFLDraftscout.com be considered a sleeper?

In other words, people noticed him this year and his stock has risen accordingly.

OLB Orien Martin Virginia Tech. Like the kid a lot....which is rare for me coming out of Beamerland.

Alex Fletcher C Stanford
London Fryar CB Western Michigan
DeAngelo Smith CB Rutgers
Brian Mandeville TE Northeastern

OT Lydon Murtha, Nebraska
SS Keith Fitzhugh, MS State

NFP Sleeper Prospects

The word “sleeper” is used every year at draft season as scouting departments around the league try to uncover the little-known prospect who might end up developing into the next franchise player. The National Football Post introduces a new series, “Wake up to these Sleepers,” to help identify which sleeper prospects have the best chance to strike it big.
Dominique Edison, Wide Receiver, Stephen F. Austin

Lee Robinson, Outside Linebacker, Alcorn State

Everette Pedescleaux, Defensive End, Northern Iowa

I disagree with the definition that the player needs to turn into a franchise player to be a sleeper. In that case only the Tom Bradys of the world would be considered sleepers. I think anyone that outperforms expectations for where they were picked and turns into a good player can be considered a sleeper.

Two sleeper picks so far:

RB Cedric Peerman, Virginia, 5093 210 - round 5 projection
OLB Lee Robinson, Alcorn State, 6022 249 - round 6 projection

Like the Robinson pick.

Add Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Spillman, 6'4", 330#. 5th-7th round projection.

RB Cedric Peerman, Virginia, 5093 210 - round 5 projection

Glad you mentioned him since he had fallen off my radar. Looked like he was really ready to break out but the Cavs sucked this past year...particulary on offense. He is quick to the hole and seemed to have solid hands. I was zeroing in on Ian Johnson as a late round RB, but I'll be interested to see how Peerman shows at the combine.

Sebastian Vollmer, OT, Houston.

Projected to go in round 5/6.

Bit of a reach, but I like to think I called that one :)

Nice call. Of course, I'd rather take him in the third.

Mostly, I'm just completely confused why they don't take someone else when they had Gilbert, Johnson, Smith, and Meredith on the board. Huh.

Great call BritPat
I agree..it was a great call...a surprise at 2...but they onviously didn't want another team to draft him..even later..
