I didn't think I'd have time for it this year, but my boss happens to be out today, so there. I pursued an interesting strategy as Pats GM this year, given the strength of the roster. The Gonzo trade made me shuffle quite a bit in the last 24 hours, and changed the look of the Pats draft completely. I don't really have time for witty comments or extended explanations...or even easy-to-read formatting. Maybe I'll add them later. And so it goes:

1 Lions - Matthew Stafford QB Georgia Of course if they don't agree to terms, this whole thing gets shot.
2 Rams - Jason Smith OT Baylor
3 Chiefs - BJ Raji DT Boston College
4 Seahawks - TRADE Seattle trades #4 pick to Cincinnati for #6 and #70. Bengals select Eugene Monroe OT Virginia
5 Browns - Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri I'm assuming Braylon Edwards gets traded between Monday and next season.
6 Seahawks (From Cincinnati) - Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest. I don't buy the QB bit. Hasselbeck and Wallace proved to be a capable tandem, and there's no need to reach for a QB this year.
7 Raiders - Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech
8 Jaguars - Malcolm Jenkins CB Ohio St
9 Packers - TRADE Green Bay trades #9 pick to San Francisco for #10 and #146. 49ers select Mark Sanchez QB USC I'm sure other, richer offers will be made, but Green Bay does not want to fall to far down and risk not getting their guy.
10 Packers (from San Francisco) - Tyson Jackson DE LSU Kiper has him #3 now? Yikes.
11 Bills - Brian Orakpo DE Texas
12 Broncos - Everette Brown DE Florida St Xanders/McDaniels has to try filling out a 3-4 defense, so they try to shoehorn Brown in as a OLB.
13 Redskins - Andre Smith OT Alabama No-brainer if he slips this far.
14 Saints - Brian Cushing LB USC
15 Texans - Rey Maualuga LB USC
16 Chargers - Michael Oher OT Mississippi AJ Smith knows where the value is.
17 Jets - Darrius Heyward-Bey WR Maryland
18 Broncos (From Chicago) - Evander Hood DL Missouri You can refer back to their last pick.
19 Buccaneers - Peria Jerry DT Mississippi
20 Lions - TRADE Detroit trades the #20 pick to Kansas City for DT Glenn Dorsey and a
second round pick in 2010. Chiefs select Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma St
21 Eagles - Chris Wells RB Ohio St
22 Vikings - Alex Mack C California
23 Patriots - William Beatty OT Connecticut
24 Falcons - Darius Butler CB Connecticut
25 Dolphins - Vontae Davis CB Illinois
26 Ravens - Larry English LB Northern Illinois
27 Colts - Knowshawn Moreno RB Georgia
28 Bills (From Carolina through Philadelphia) - Clay Matthews LB USC
29 Giants - Hakeem Nicks WR North Carolina
30 Titans - TRADE Tennessee trades #30 and #94 to Arizona for #204 and WR Anquan Boldin. Cardinals select Aaron Maybin LB Penn St
31 Cardinals - Jared Cook TE South Carolina
32 Steelers - Eric Wood C Louisville

18(82) Lions (From Dallas ) - TRADE Detroit trades #82 and their 2010 5th round pick to
New England for #89 and #124. Patriots select Antoine Caldwell G Alabama That actually worked out rather nicely. I like Caldwell at guard better than I do Levitre or Canfield.
19(83) Packers (From New York Jets) - Jairus Byrd DB Oregon
20(84) Broncos (From Chicago) - Andy Levitre G Oregon St

32(96) Steelers - Trevor Canfield G Cincinnati
33(97) Patriots (Compensatory selection) - Antonio Appleby LB Virginia This is the Oh...snap pick. Is it a reach? Yes. However, with no picks until #170, Belichick gets an inside 'backer, which frees up the draft board to spend the rest of the picks on high upside guys who need some coaching up while they play STs or season on the practice squad.
34(98) Bengals (Compensatory selection) - Juaquin Iglesias WR Oklahoma
35(99) Bears (Compensatory selection) - Brandon Tate WR North Carolina

As always, thanks for the effort.

Thanks for the effort. I hope it doesn't work out that way. :D

I've gotta run, but I'll give more detailed comments later.

Recap:

Beatty, Sintim, Chung, Robiskie, Caldwell, Appleby, and the projects Edelman, Johnson, Miller, and McCain.

Possible UDFAs? High upside D-lineman Nader Abdallah, Richard Washington and Louis Ellis. O-lineman for Dante's program like Rich Ohrnberger, Ben Coblyn, Phil Trautwein, Chris Kemme, and Dane Randolph. Camp arms like Mike Teel and Rudy Carpenter. Scatbacks like Larod Stephens-Howling and Marcus Thigpen. Return guys like Michael Ray Garvin and Tristan Davis. Projections like Kevin Malast. Depth WRs like Manny Johnson. Injured guys like Wopamo Osaisai.

Like the Appleby pick...I wouldn't be surprised if they took him with higher 3rd rounder.

So, a soft LT, maxed out OLB, maxed out WR, leaning tower of Center, and a non-instinctive ILB...at least the late round kids have some athleticism.

Great effort a lot of solid players picked.

A possible UDFA to keep an eye on is the massive NT from Miami. He is not the player Wilfork was coming out, but he is a solid two gap run stuffer.

I'd be content with this draft. The only pick I'm unfamiliar with is the Akron RB. Nice effort.

Amazing, are your kids named Kiper and McShay? Great job.

"TE Brandon Pettigrew = DT Glenn Dorsey + second round pick in 2010"

Really?
Did you put the 2010 2nd rounder on the wrong side of the equation?

Nope. I think Pioli wants to move a bloated salary that really doesn't fit his defense.

The Patriots are too good to draft good players in the first three rounds. This should level the playing field.

No SU boys? :p

They're not that good.

The only fit I see is the guard Ryan Durand late in the draft or more likely as a UDFA. He seems to fit the profile. And I still think Curtis Brinkley is a player.

Perhaps DE Arthur Jones next year.

Great effort. Absolutely hate the Caldwell pick. He doesn't have the attitude for OG. Not like Levitre, Unger, Woods and Luigs. Also, he's horrible at pulling. Something a Pats guard needs to be able to do.

Great job as usual! So who is your sleeper/binkie this year?? You got Demps right last year I gotta say.
