Just saw this on the wires,

FOXNews.com - NFL Confirms Talks to Hold Super Bowl in London - International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News

A senior NFL official confirmed that 'substantive talks' have been held with London officials about holding the Super Bowl abroad, the BBC reported Friday.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has expressed interest in the past about bringing the game to London in an effort to expand the game to a global audience.

"We've spoken on what it would take to host and for us to bring it over," the BBC quotes events vice-president Frank Supovitz, speaking in New York City a day before the NFL Draft will take place there. "The city has all the facilities needed, and in great quantity."

Visit London, the city's official visitor organization, has long pursued a deal to bring the Super Bowl to the capital.

"Ever since the NFL began playing games in London we have been in discussions with the NFL about what is involved in staging Super Bowl from the host city perspective," the BBC quoted commercial director David Hornby.

While the venues for the next three Super Bowls have already been chosen, London appears to be a real possibility down the road.

The NFL has already had success there, with a regular season game at Wembley in 2007 drawing 80,000 fans to watch the New York Giants play the Miami Dolphins.

Respects,

Re: NFL Looking To Put Superbowl On In London...

The NFL is killing me with this.

Think about how much money they are taking away from the economy of a local NFL city by taking it to London. Wonder if Roger is trying to boost television revenue and/or subscriptions in England or leverage against a prospective NFL city that could host the Super Bowl.

Basically, I think it is un-American to have the Super Bowl in London. I think I'll dedicate myself to baseball if they do this.... can't see them having the world series in some other country (other than Canada).

BLOODY HELL NO!

Not that I'm ever likely to be able to go to a SB, but that doesn't seem fair at all to the millions of US fans who love and support this sport. And I imagine going to London would not be do-able for a lot of people that could otherwise attend. I can live with the game they already have there for the sake of the UK fans, but enough already!

Ok, I agree with you, but please tell me you appreciate the irony of this statement :D

Yes, but if I start down that road over a Super Bowl, I'll definitely say something ban-able about that assclown.

Having the Super Bowl outside the US seems wrong to me, too, but I'm not sure it would be bad for the economy. Remember, we'd be exporting a product, and foreigners would be spending money that would be coming into the US. When it's Americans spending, it's just our own money going around a circle.

Worst

idea

ever.

This will become one of those jokes "Who is the marketing genius that came up with this one?"

They aren't going to like football like they like soccer. Quit trying to fit a square into a circle you idiot.

I don't see what the fuss is all about. It's not like London is becoming the permanent home of the NFL's championship in the same way Hawaii hosts the probowl.

It would be one Superbowl, big deal.

Right, and it's about time that England's 12 NFL teams had something to boast about.

Oh, wait....

Re: NFL Looking To Put Superbowl On In London...

I'll be in favor of this when the London Bridgers win the EFL (European Football Team) title.

Until then, absolutely not!

Re: NFL Looking To Put Superbowl On In London...

The point about money is this: Whichever city hosts a Superbowl rakes in some serious cash for a week to ten days. That includes, especially, many of the local businesses, like Diners, bars, sports shops, B&B's, etc. it isn't just the big corporate chains.

Taking literally tens of millions of dollars off the table that some American city could use is just not right.

Then again, the NFL doesn't give a rat's patoot about the regular fans. It hasn't for a long time. The Superbowl is a party for "A" list celebrities and corporate donors and fat cats.

Oh, the NFL will set aside a few tix here and there for "Joe Six Pack" to show that regular folks do attend, but that's no different from the way that WalMart and other businesses hire the handicapped to be greeters to show how the company "cares" about the little people.

I am VERY much against this in the same way that I am against playing regular season games out of the country. It's OUR game, not Europe's. They have soccer, we have football. Play it here where the fans can tailgate and maybe have a chance to score some tix. Play a meaningless pre-season game overseas if they have to, but outsourcing our game, especially in this current economic climate, is just plain wrong.

The Commish needs a pink slip.

Oh, wait....

I personally don't care if they host it or not.

Re: NFL Looking To Put Superbowl On In London...

If England gets the Super Bowl, does that mean we can hang Roger Goodell from the Tower of London and then display his head on a spike? It would almost be worth it.
